5th International Operational Modal Analysis Conference

Welcome to IOMAC 2013

Welcome to the 5th International Modal Analysis Conference, Guimares,
Portugal, May 13-15, 2013.
The Conference is jointly organised by University of Minho and University
of Porto, supported by Aarhus University, with the special sponsorship of
Bruel & Kjaer and several exhibitors: Bruel & Kjaer, HBM nCode, LMS Interna-
tional, M+P International and Structural Vibration Solutions.
From the establishment of Experimental Stress Analysis in the decade of
40 of the last century to the present time, Experimental Structural Dynamics
has undertaken an enormous progress, with the consolidation of testing tech-
niques, the improvement and diversified use of sensors and acquisition sys-
tems, the development of modern algorithms for identification and detection
of damage and the increased storage and data transmission capacities, which
have determined an increased understanding of the structural behaviour of
complex structures.
In this context, Operational Modal Analysis has played a very significant
role enabling the use of more and more sophisticated and accurate algo-
rithms and computational tools for the estimation of relevant dynamic struc-
tural properties based only on the measurement of the response to natural
excitations.
This Conference covers all major aspects of Operational Modal Analysis,
with focus on the following topics: comparison with traditional modal anal-
ysis, damage detection, experimental testing, fatigue, identification tech-
niques, load estimation, measurement techniques, model updating, model
validation, noise control, response simulation, signal processing, structural
modification and vibration level.
Beyond a good number of interesting papers on these topics, presented
by researchers, technical specialists and students, the Conference compre-
hends a Keynote Lecture by Dr. Bart Peeters and a Lecture of Honour by Dr.
Reto Cantieni, two prestigious members of the OMA community.
As the previous IOMAC Conferences, held in 2005 and 2007 in Copenha-
gen, in 2009 at Ancona and in 2011 in Istanbul, scientists, applicants, vendors
and students have the occasion to share their knowledge in this rather fasci-
nating field and to improve their specific skill.
We warmly thank all the contributors, the authors, the speakers and the
exhibitors and sponsors of the event and wish this conference will offer you
fruitful discussions and a pleasant time in Guimares.

Notes for Speakers

The IOMAC conference will be running on a tight schedule and your coop-
eration in making sure the sessions follow to the designated time limit is
much appreciated.

Each Speaker is allowed a total of 15 minutes: 13 minutes for Oral Presenta-

tion + 2 minutes for short Questions and Answers (Q&A). Alternatively, the
Chairperson of your session might choose to pool the allowed time for
Q&A and reserve a combined Q&A session for all speakers towards the
end of the session.

Speakers will be alerted as they approach their presentation time limit (i.e.
with a 2-minutes warning). We suggest all Speakers to prepare a presenta-
tion with about one slide per minute (maximum of about 15 slides).

Speakers are requested to send in advance to the Local Organizing Com-

mittee the following information:
- Paper ID number;
- Speaker name;
- Short CV of 100-150 words.

The short CV will be used by the Chair to introduce the Speaker before the
presentation.

A computer with projector equipment will be available at each conference

room. For presentations we advise to use powerpoint or pdf slides.

For the sake of good order, please bring your presentation in an USB
memory device. The files should be copied to the computer in your room
Session during the Coffee Breaks.

15 min before the beginning of each session, each Speaker should intro-
duce himself to the Chair of the Session.

Once again, we kindly ask your cooperation for the success of IOMAC 2013
Conference.

IOMAC 2013

26
IOMAC 2013
This conference is a review of recent theoretical and
experimental research on Operational Modal Analysis,
presented under the following topics:
Comparison with traditional modal analysis
Damage detection
Experimental testing
Fatigue
Identification techniques
Load estimation
Measurement techniques
Model updating
Model validation
Noise control
Response simulation
Signal processing
Structural modification
Vibration level

IOMAC is the first conference on the subject of

Operational Modal Analysis. The idea of IOMAC is to be
the natural meeting place for everybody in the field - the
scientist, the applicant, the vendor and the student, and
also those who would like to get introduced to the field.
