A contemporarily British educator, Ken Robinson once said: School was the place to

promote creativity in human being, but instead schools nowadays aim to kill creativity and
encourage similarity. In the early days where the idea of school first started by Plato, it was meant
to be an institution to teach individuals knowledge about life. Until the 18th century where Industrial
Revolution begun, the identity and purpose of school changed to training individuals as an
employee. Nowadays, the purpose of school remained plainly to help students secure a job offer in
the market rather than teach them how to live as a human being. To compete for state or even
national academic excellence, school ignore the budding stages in students mind and ask them to
cram large amount of lifeless factual knowledge which are mostly inapplicable to real life. In another
word, over the years schools changed its roles from producing independent thinking and creative
human being to a motionless and similar robot producing factory. However, the contribution of
schools cannot be diminished when it comes to providing a chance of education exposure to
individuals. Shortly, I disagree that prepare us for life.

First off, schools curriculum is disconnected from the real world. In almost all schools, they
have the similar hierarchy of different subjects or studies where sciences and mathematics come of
the top of the pyramid, followed by languages, civil and moral studies and the bottom with music
and sports. By using this hierarchy, students and teachers place their utmost focus on mathematics
and sciences, ignoring the importance of the other. At the end, the school only good at producing
professors and academics who are good at theoretical knowledge but rather weak when it comes to
applications. My argument is that schools curriculum does not produce an all rounded individual
with enough basic knowledge or common sense to sustain their life. The worst that can happen is
that the talents of musician, artist, athletics and other individuals under the school system will live
their live aimlessly.

School ignore the growth of emotional qualities of the students. School does not promote
emotional hygiene, durability or empathetic skills to students. The reason behind this, is largely
because those skills are not included to measure the competitiveness of school. Imagine the huge
population that were not equipped with these skills,
