Therearemanytypesofresearch
applicationsforthecollections,including

behaviorsrelatedtoterritory,thermoregulation,and
feeding).Anotherstudentinthiscoursestudiedthenumber
ofbirdspeciesfoundintheGardenatdifferenttimesofday.
FourstudentsintheIntroductoryBiologycoursestudied
hummingbirdforagingbehavioronplantsinthe
MesoamericanArea.Astudyoftheaquaticinsectsin
StrawberryCreekwasundertakenasthesubjectofasenior
thesisinEnvironmentalSciences.AstudentinthePopula-
tionEcologycoursestudiedvariouseffectsofsoilsandlight
intensityontheCaliforniabuckeye(Aesculuscalifornica)
treesintheGarden.Undergraduate(andGardenstudent
