ABSTRACT

Nursing care is one of the services which contribute to the achievement of

hospital good performance, either in individually or organizationally. Mitra Sejati
General Hospital has obtained hospital accreditation for all of its employees/nurses.
However, since last year its standardized nursing care has been decreasing.
The objective of the research was to analyze the correlation of kno9wledge of
hospital accreditation and individual characteristics with nurses performance at
Mitra Sejati Hospital, Medan. The research used cross sectional design with
explanatory approach. The population was 186 nurses, and all of them were used as
the samples. The data were gathered by conducting interviews and questionnaires
and analyzed by using multiple logistic regression analysis at = 0.05.
The result of the research showed that, statistically, nurses knowledge of
hospital accreditation (which included philosophy and objective, administration and
management, staffs and managers, facility and equipment, policy and procedure, staff
development and education, and evaluation and quality control) and individual
characteristics (age and length of service) had significant correlation with nurses
performance. The variable of age had the most significant correlation with nurses
performance.
It is recommended that (1) nursing care of Mitra Sejati Hospital should
improve nurses knowledge of hospital accreditation standard by socializing
sustainably and evaluate the implementation of hospital accreditation on nurses
performance in providing nursing care, and (2) nurses should improve their
knowledge of hospital accreditation standard by participating in education,
counseling, and seminar.
