Humanity's Curse Script

Format
A text based game inspired by old text based games such as the Oregon Trail. Users
will be able to make decisions and choose paths that will affect the ending of the game.
Coding Language will by Python and visuals will probably be provided by tkinter. Or I
just don't have the time to program such a project. I mean at least this script is here

Context
I have no idea what the context will be yet. Virus outbreak? - kind of overused but hey,
its overused for a reason. World Currency becoming obsolete? - kind of unique but
realistically, kind of hard to set up. Nuclear war? - possibly. World resource war? -
possibly as well. Either way, Earth is screwed and there are few survivors.

Act 1 Companionship
Scene Opener: You awake in a dimly lit room covered in sheet metal. The room reeks
of alcohol and you trip over empty bottles.

Stuart: I guess I nearly drank myself to death again. Kind of sad I didnt give myself
alcohol poisoning. Beats living in this lonely shitty (on the real, I hope Im allowed to
curse) world.

Prompt: Pick a room to explore

Examine the alcohol bottles
Stuart: I need to stop doing this to myself. One day, someone might take
me out while Im intoxicated
Look at the window
Stuart: Huh, seems clear out there. Still the same old barren wasteland
Walk out the door

Stuart: Time to get some fresh air and do the same old routine

Stuart leaves the makeshift shack and makes his way towards the dumpster. He grabs
his Mosin Nagant Rifle and his 1911 Colt pistol from the dumpster as well his backpack.
As Stuart makes his way back towards his shack, he hears some leaves rustling
nearby.

Stuart: FUCK, MUST BE THE raccoons COMING FOR MY FOOD AGAIN

Stuart makes a mad dash towards the tree line with his knife out when he catches a
glimpse of a blonde hair woman trying to take down the bag full of food from the tree

Prompt: What does Stuart do

Fire at the woman - she is a no good thief
Stuart misses because he is garbage

Confront the woman
The woman glances at Stuart and immediately puts her hands up

Amy: PLEASE DONT HURT ME, IM ONLY LOOKING FOR FOOD FOR MY SICK
HUSBAND

Stuart repositions himself a few feet away from the woman, his weapon still drawn

Prompt: Question the woman

How did you find this place
Amy: I saw it while I was walking in the treelines.
Stuart: Why were you out here in the first place?
Amy: i was trying to find some kind of water reserve, some kind of pond,
any kind of water!
Can I trust you
Amy: Yes, please Im only trying to help my husband. You can take all the
things in my backpack, just let me live
What is your husband sick with?
Amy: I dont know! He just collapsed one day and hasnt been able to get
up since!
Take me to your husband

Stuart and Amy leave the forest and travel to the nearby suburban neighborhood. Amy
takes Stuart to a small one story house at the end of the block. The entire time, Stuart is
skeptical that he is walking into a trap, but reluctantly follows
Prompt: Arrival at the scene
Examine the husband:
Stuart: He seems to be unconscious, he still has a pulse and his vitals still
seem stable
Kill the husband immediately:
Amy: WHY DID YOU KILL MY HUSBAND
Prompt the husband dies tree
Help the husband, or ya know, try
Stuart attempts to apply morphine to the husband in hopes of restarting
his heart
"The husband wakes up to a crying Amy and holds her dearly. The
husband however, asks to die
Prompt - Do you want to kill husband

Stuart: No sir, I refuse to let you die. Youll have to wait here
while we go look for supplies
Amy: NO! We cant leave him here
Stuart: Amy, if we dont get him the proper medicine, he wont
live another day
Amy: Where are we going to find supplies?
Stuart: We can check the pharmacy in the city, it is our only
hope
Amy: Fine, goodbye my love, well be back soon
PROCEED TO ACT 2
Yes
Prompt the husband dies tree

Husband Dies- amy unstable emotions, draws her weapon, Prompt again
Talk amy down
Stuart: He is going to kill the both of us, he is diseased
Amy: He was my husband there might have been a cure, there might have
been something out there
Stuart: If there was a cure, then we wouldnt be in this shit hole now would
we
Amy: you dont understand how much he meant to me
Stuart: There is a cruel world out there where people have died by the
millions, humanity is the least of my concerns
Amy: Of course its the least of your concerns, you are just a monster
 Stuart: At least I am alive and well, if you would like to die here with your
husband you can
Prompt: Amy contemplates suicide
Let her
Welp, Amy dies, no companion for your lonely ass
Talk her down
Stuart: This is a cruel cruel world, but we can survive
it together. More power in numbers. Ive had my fair
share of losses, hell I watched my family be ripped
apart by a pack of cannibals. I wanted to end my life
but I knew I had to keep moving. In memory of my
family. So pick your ass up and keep moving for him.
Shoot her
She ded
Stuart: Well there goes that situation. When I asked for something exciting
in life, I wasnt expecting this

End of act one - choices involve either you having a new companion or more bodies on
your mind.

Act 2 Looting - taking from family?

Scene opener: Amy and Stuart walk through the abandoned streets of the city. There
are abandoned cars scattered along for miles. There is also a distinct smell of rotting
bodies coming from the local hospital that engulfs the entire town.

If Amy is dead ** The thoughts of the blonde hair woman flood Stuarts mind.
In Stuarts mind, it made logical sense, keeping a person around is another mouth to
feed. He barely has any supplies to support himself, let alone another person. In a
moral sense, Stuart feels like a horrible human being. He has killed a person who was
just trying to help. To cope with this pain, Stuart manifests a ghost figure of Amy.

* If Amy isnt alive, replace Amys title with the ghost of amys voice
Amy: Wow, the big city! I never imagined myself to be here
Stuart: Focus on why were here. We need to get supplies. Now where to first.

Prompt: Where to search first?

Sports store
Stuart: Lets hit the sports store, I need to find ammunition
 Amy: Dont you think it would already be looted and ransacked
Stuart: I sure hope it isnt ransacked already
Arrive in store, what to examine
Front counter
Stuart: There is nothing here but gum and candy, someone
must have taken all the granola and sports bars
Baseball section
Stuart: This is a fancy looking bat, looks like its still new,
adding this to my arsenal
Amy: dont you think thats a bit brutal and primitive?
Stuart : Dont ya think its better to sneak up on someone
rather than shoot
Amy: Shooting someone is more humane, it puts people out
of their misery
Stuart: you have much to learn lady
Gun Section
Fail to find any rounds for the mosin but found some .9mm
ammunition for your pistol
Amy fails to find anything for her p250 pistol
Also find a flare gun with 2 shots left
Super market
Stuart: We need to resupply my food storage, the raccoons have been
able to get up and nab some food
Amy: I just want some ice cream, I havent had any since the world went
down
Stuart: there is a reason you havent, there is literally no electricity to
support refrigeration
Amy: you cant hurt a girl for believing
What to examine upon entering
Meat section
Stuart: Disgusting, the meat is moldy and filled with
maggots. There is no way we can salvage this
Canned food storage
Stuart: Perfect, there are still some refried beans and
Chicken noodle soup
Amy: Isnt there anything like canned fruit, I want somethign
sweet
Stuart: Sadly, those are long gone. Ransacked a long time
ago
 Drinks section
Stuart: Damn, there is no more water. Must have been taken
a long time ago
Pharmacy
Stuart: We need some medical supplies if we need to make it out of this
mess
Amy: I dont think that is going to happen seeing as there is a car stuck in
the building
Stuart: Damn, that car must have been used to get into the building when
everything went to shit. I doubt there is anything left
Apartments
Stuart: Do you think the residents might have left anything to salvage?
Amy: Probably not but its worth a shot
While salvaging the remains of apartment of 1606, Stuart hears the floorboards on the
floor creak

Stuart: What the fuck was that

Amy: It must have been a mouse or something, doesnt matter to us

Stuart eventually finds a stash of water hidden and a first aid kit behind a book case

Stuart: Jackpot! Were not going to die after all!

Disjointed childs voice: FREEZE MISTER, GET AWAY FROM MY WATER

Stuart and Amy turn to find a 10 year old child pointing a gun at them

Stuart: Dont do anything rash buddy, were only here to get supplies
Child: You liar! Youre trying to steal my water!

Following the childs yelling is a distressed man running down the stairs. He enters the
room, brandishing his own firearm

Stuart: Hold on, I didnt mean to steal from you guys, were only trying to survive
Man: if you want to survive, you better leave this building and never return

Prompt: What to do
Examine the man
 Stuart: He seems to using a m16 rifle. I have no idea where he got
it but if I can get it from him, it would make an excellent addition to
my arsenal.
Man: Hey what are you thinking there, did you not hear me, leave.
NOW
Talk down the situation
Stuart: Sir we are only trying to survive out here. We are in need of
water and medical supplies.
Man: Well you can fuck off away from here, we dont have any of
those for the likes of you
Stuart: Sir calm down, we are in the same situation, we are only
trying to survive this mess of the apocalypse.
Man: So am I, I worked hard to find those kind of things. I had to go
out to a down a mile out of here to find that, and I sure as hell am
not going to let you take it now.
Stuart: Can we at least not have a little bit of something?
Man: Hell no, I worry day and night about losing those supplies. I
hide it from the pack of bandits that are stationed near by.
Prompt Fire at the man or leave peacefully
Leave
Stuart: Fine, you win sir. Well leave peacefully
Amy: NO! You can't just give up now
Stuart: Shut up Amy, cant you see that we are at a
disadvantage right now? Sorry Sir, Ill begin to make
my way out of the building
As stuart and Amy begin to leave, a stray shot comes
in through the window, mortally wounding the man
Dying father scene
Fire at the man
Same as fire at the man featured down below
Fire at the man
Stuart fires at the man but misses by a narrow margin
Man: Son! Get down, Ill handle this!
A fierce firefight breaks out and eventually Stuart mortally wounds
the man by shooting him in the liver
Dying Father scene
Man: GODDAMMIT, FUCK YOU ALL, IF YOU TWO NEVER CAME HERE, I
WOULDNT BE DYING.
Son: Dont worry Pa, Ill help you, what can I do?
Man: Im sorry son, but there isnt much you can do right now, Except kill these two
mother fuckers right here

The boy raises his pistol and takes aim at stuart:

Man: Do it son, kill the evil people

Prompt: What to do with the boy?

Kill him
Stuart fires a shot off at the boy before the boy could pull the trigger.
The boy drops down to the ground with a loud thump while the father
watches in despair. The father looks at the boy one last time before he
passes away from his injuries.
Proceed to act 3
Try to disarm him
Stuart leaps at the boy and the boy attempts to fire off a shot but misses.
As the struggle continues, Stuart hears a second shot and looks down to
see blood on his shirt. Stuart looks the mortified boy in the eyes, realizing
the gun had gone off again and hit the boy
The boy drops down to the ground with a loud thump while the father
watches in despair. The father looks at the boy one last time before he
passes away from his injuries.
Proceed to act 3

Act 3 Cannibals - or Raiders

The death of the boy sends shockwaves of across the city, The gunshot echoes
throughout every city block, through every nook and cranny. Stuart and Amy are still in
shock about what had just happened, staring at the two fresh bodies on the ground.
Another stray shot coming through the window and missing the two forces Stuart and
Amy to get their bearings back together

Stuart: AMY GET DOWN, THOSE MUST BE THE BANDITS THE MAN WAS TALKING
ABOUT! The argument and the shots must have brought them to us

Stuart and Amy drop to the crawl towards the opening of the room. While crawling, Amy
grabs the water bottles and the first aid kit
Stuart: Really? We just got two people killed and you still want to loot? Might as well
grab their guns too, I guess

Stuart grabs the m16 rifle from the man only to be disappointed to find that the gun was
empty the entire time. Stuart checks the pistol the child was holding and finds a single
bullet left in the chamber.

Prompt: Where to go now?

Look out the window
Stuart: I dont think I should peek out the window. I might get shot. From
the angle of the broken window and the hole in the wall from the shot, it
seems that the shot came from outside the building
Look at the bodies
Stuart: Im sorry this has ended this way sir. Im sure you were a good
man.
Crawl towards the door:
As Stuart and Amy crawl towards the door, Stuart hears and distinguishes
three different voices
Man 1: You, go check the building and wipe out the scumbags, Well
watch the entrance out here
Stuart: Amy, you here that? We need to get out of here, these guys are
probably more armed than us.

As Stuart and Amy leave the room, Stuart hears the sound of a boot coming up the
stairs.

Amy: Shit, shit shit, what do we do?

Stuart: Dont worry, I got this

As the sound of the boot becomes louder and louder, Stuart preps to attack the man
coming up stairs. The man reaches the top of the staircase

Prompt How to attack the man?

Baseball Bat ~ if available
Stuart swings the baseball bat at the man, causing the man to stumble
backwards and inevitably fall. Stuart continues swinging at the man until
the face of the man is a bloody pulp. A short period of peace is interrupted
by a static and the voice of a man
 Man 2: Dempsey did you find the survivors? Dempsey?
Stuart and Amy hear the voice coming from a radio attached to the mans
chest. Their skin tones become lighter and their hearts drop
Man 2: Aight fuck it, Im coming up too
Shoot gun
Stuart fires his rifle at the man coming up, the man drops to the ground
immediately. A short period of peace is interrupted by static and the voice
of a man
Man 2: Dempsey was that you firing shots? I thought we talked about this,
we dont kill if we can take slaves
Stuart and Amy hear the voice coming from a radio attached to the mans
chest. Their skin tones become lighter and their hearts drop

Stuart: We have to end this, we have to get out of here. This is the harsh reality we
have to live with Amy

Stuart and Amy slowly make their way down stairs. Three pairs of footsteps can be
heard going through the stairwell, One going up, and two going down. Eventually the
man coming up catches a glimpse of Stuart and takes aim

Man2: Hey you! Stop right there. Where is Dempsey?

Prompt: What should you do?

Try to talk it out
Stuart: Listen, we can talk about this cant we? Arent we all just trying to
survive?
Man2: Fuck you, this world isnt big enough for all of us.
Taunt the man
Stuart: Your little friend is bloody mess up there. Would you like to join
him?
Man2: Fuck you! Youre going to die

A fierce firefight breaks out. Bullets and woodchips fly left and right. Eventually, Stuart is
able to strike the second man. The second man drops to the ground in a loud thump
and Stuart and Amy rejoice at their short victory. The firefight is over, but there was one
more person outside and Stuart expended all of his ammunition during the firefight.
Stuart and Amy make their way outside and confront the final bandit, a woman with
brown hair with a leather jacket and jeans. Stuart raises his weapon before the woman
and the woman puts her hands up in response
Woman: Wait dont shoot! I was just trying to survive! To do that, I was forced to work
with these monsters! Please, Im not like them, I dont want to hurt anyone! Please I am
just trying to survive!

Prompt: What to do with the woman?

Let her go free
Stuart: How do I know if youre telling the truth?
Woman: My gun isnt loaded if you want to check! Please just let me go
Amy: Stuart just let her go! Havent you killed enough people today
Stuart: Amy this isnt the time, what if she comes back to kill us?
Amy: You still have morals Stuart, I know you do! Let this poor woman go!
Stuart: Fine, get the fuck out of here
Attack her
Without any hesitation, Stuart walks up to the woman with his weapon still
drawn. When Stuart gets close, he hits the woman with the but of the rifle.
Amy: Stop! What are you doing!
Stuart continues beating the woman until her face becomes
unrecognizable

Good ending:
Stuart: Alright, time to go home

Amy: Youre just going to leave? After all that has happened, youre not going to talk
about any of this?

Stuart: The world is a fucked up place where humanity plays little to no role. Welcome
to the real world dear. Youre lucky I still kept my humanity or else youd be dead right
now.

Stuart and Amy head back to the suburbs and attempt to treat the dying husband (if he
is alive). The treatment is uncessful and he dies in the process

Prompt hustband dying scenario

Bad ending:
Stuart: Alright, time to go home
Amy: Youre just going to leave? After all that has happened, youre not going to talk
about any of this?

Amy: Stuart, stop where you are right now.

Amy pulls out a pistol and takes aim at Stuart.

Amy: Stuart, you are the bane of humanity and you deserve to die

Stuart: Put the gun down you dumb bitch, Im doing what I have to do to survive. The
world is a fucked up place where humanity plays little to no role. Welcome to the real
world dear.

Amy: Which means it wouldn't matter if you died right here right now

Amy pulls the trigger and the bullet pierces through Stuarts skull. As Stuart drops to the
ground, his life flashes before his eyes and he gets a glimpse of a simpler time. He gets
a glimpse of his family, when he still had his humanity before everything went to
shit.Stuart manages to form a small smile before he is completely engulfed by the white
light.

If Amy is dead:
The ghost of Amy finally disappears and Stuart finds himself holding his own pistol to
his head. The ghosts of the people he has killed has finally stopped tormenting him
because he realized the decay of his morality.Stuart pulls the trigger on himself and the
bullet pierces through his skull. As Stuart drops to the ground, his life flashes before his
eyes and he gets a glimpse of a simpler time. He gets a glimpse of his family, when he
still had his humanity before everything went to shit . Stuart manages to form a small
smile before he is completely engulfed by the white light.
