Background Information
This evaluation is completed as per Chinook's Edge Schoo! Division's Administrative Procedure
AP 4-13 Teacher Evaluation at your request. This evaluation is the culmination of several
classroom observations and conversations with the teacher. As well, a review of the teacher's
documents and artifacts has been part of this process.
This is Mrs, Matishak’s ‘st full year of teaching. She is presently employed on a part-time
temporary contract at Ecole Innisfail Middle School. She is part of the Grade 7 team and the
Kaawaan House Team and she is participating in the Chinook's Edge Mentorship Program for
new teachers.
Commendations
irs. Malishak has a Solid understanding of the curricula she is required to
teach. This is clearly evident in her planning documents and her lesson
delivery. She is thoughtful and purposeful in her preparation and planning
land considers the needs and learning styles of all of her students. This is
levident in her daily lessons and students are well-aware of the learning
loutcome they are working on during any given lesson.

teaching partner so that as students transition back and forth between the

Mrs. Matishak designs learning tasks and activiles thal are engaging and
/appropriate for middle school students. She uses an interactive notebook
Japproach to deliver new content which is a very effective strategy for
[students at this age. Mrs. Matishak ensures that material is presented in a
variety of ways so that students with a variety of learning styles will be able
ito succeed. She readily provides assistive technology to students who
require it and is always willing to adjust tasks to meet students’ needs and
abilities.
Mrs. Matishak worked with her teaching partner to take on a room
transformation lesson for her students. Together, they transformed a
[classroom space into Fractiano’s Pizzeria, surprising their students with a
morning of cross-curricular learning activities built around the Pizzeria
theme. Students were engaged and excited about this learning opportunity!

The learning environment in Mrs. Matishak’s classroom is structured with
clearly defined high expectations. Students know what is expected of them,

Mrs. Matishak uses a variety of assessments in her classroom instruction,
all inked directly to learning outcomes. She uses projects, tests, rubrics,
performance-based tasks, and ongoing formative assessment with regular
feedback to ensure that students are on-track with their learning. Mrs
IMatishak is able to speak about each student's achievement in relation to
specific learning outcomes and indicate plans for moving their learning
forward. She uses information gathered about student achievement to
inform her own planning and instruction.
Mrs. Matishak keeps her gradebook and PowerSchool records up-to-date
so that students and parents have timely information about progress. She
has several students on individualized programs and has worked
collaboratively with another teacher to design a very specific literacy
[program for some of these students.

Mrs. Matishak is commited to the profession of education and to her own
earning and growth. Already this school year, Mrs. Matishak has attended
Inumerous professional learning opportunities (both within our division and
lexternally) including: New Teacher Orientation, Mentorship training days,
Ron Clark Academy Educator Training, Central Alberta Teacher's
IConvention, and grade 7 PLC meetings. She engages with her grade team
land contributes to their work around literacy during monthly collaborative
days.Recommendations
- Mrs, Matishak is an extremely reflective teacher who will naturally continue to grow her skills
as she gains teaching experience and confidence.
- Mrs. Matishak is encouraged to continue to find ways to integrate music, movement, and
magic into her lessons.
- As Mrs. Matishak grows as a teacher, her intuitive understanding when working with more
challenging students will continue to develop. She is encouraged to continue to reflect upon
balancing pressure and support when working with students.
- Certainly the focus in the first year of teaching should be on classroom instruction, planning,
and assessment. As she continues in her career, Mrs. Matishak is encouraged to find ways
that she can contribute to the school community beyond the classroom setting perhaps by
sharing her passions with students or getting involved in clubs or activites.
Conclusion
At this time, Mrs. Matishak is meeting all the requirements outlined in the TQS. We are lucky to
have her on our staff this year.
