Crude Palm Oil. Master of Engineering An Independent Study Report in Energy
Engineering, Graduate School, Khon Kaen University.
Independent Study Advisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr.Tanakorn Wongwuttanasatian

ABSTRACT

The objective of this independent study was to test the performance of diesel engine
using diesel B3 mixed with crude palm oil at ratios of 95:5, 90:10 and 85:15 respectively and to
compare the results. According to the tests, it showed that the physical properties of the mixed
fuel at ratio 95:5 were closest to those of diesel oil. The performance of diesel engine used mixed
fuels had lower torque and power than that of diesel B3 at 5 17%. The specific fuel
consumption of mixed fuels were higher than using diesel B3 about 7 33%. The component of
gas emissions by using mixed fuel had less amount of Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide
(CO2), Sulfur dioxide (SO2) and Oxygen (O2) than those of diesel B3 about 1.6 52%. On the
other hand nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) when using mixed fuels were lower than
diesel B3 about 10 39%. According to the comparison of the physical properties, the
performance of the engine, and the amount of gas emissions of mixed fuel found that 95:5 ratio
by volume was a suitable ratio agricultural diesel engine. because, The physical properties of
mixed fuels is better even its performance. Also, its specific fuel consumption is less and most
emissions of Carbon monoxide (CO), Carbon dioxide (CO2) Oxygen (O2) and Sulfur dioxide
(SO2) is less than diesel B3.
