Phase 6 Bar Bending Schedule & Bill of Quantities

(I) Bar Bending Schedule

BBS list of reinforcement bars for a given reinforced concrete work.


Importance: Allows Consultant to obtain an accurate amount of
reinforcement used and allows for a faster execution of works (cutting
and bending)
Standard: BS 8666
BBS for whole project broken down into component (beams, columns,
slabs etc)
Total of about 307 tonnes of reinforcement used.
About 306 tonnes of high tensile steel and 1 tonne of mild steel.
Substructure: 88 tons, Basement: 35 tons, Ground floor: 25 tons, First
to 6th floor: 25 tons per floor
Elements requiring
(II) Bill of Quantities

Standard: SMM 7 (although out-dated in the UK, still used in Mauritius)


Quantity take off from finalised drawings
Source of rates: contractors, consultants, specialist suppliers, hardware
stores
Total Project Cost: Rs 280 M
Cost excluding contingencies, P&G, Profit: Rs 163 M
Preliminary estimated cost: Rs 340 M
Reduction explained by application of value engineering principles
throughout life cycle of project
M & E works out of project scope Lump sum provided (assisted by
QS)
Major cost components: Reinforcement and concreting works, surface
finishes, roadworks, openings (in order)
