Yoga enthusiasts rehearse for the International Yoga Day event at Ramabai

Ambedkar Rally Sthal in Lucknow on Monday.

In an attempt to make the International Yoga Day programme in Lucknow a


success, various organisations, NGOs and Yoga gurus have held camps and
practice sessions.

Adityanath and Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik have inspected the overall
preparations, including the security arrangements, for the mega event, and
attended full-dress rehearsals on Monday morning.

HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

o 2014- The United Nations declared June 21 as the International Yoga


Day on December 11, 2014.
o

o 2015- The first International Yoga Day function held on June 21, 2015,
at Rajpath in the national capital witnessed Narendra Modi performing
Yoga along with over 200 million people across the country and over
37,000 people in Delhi alone.
o

o 2016- The second edition was held in Chandigarh with the participation
of over 30,000 people in the presence of the Prime Minister.

Importance of International Yoga Day

Yoga has many health benefits. It is adopted to fulfil the following objectives:

1. To make people aware about the natural benefits of Yoga.

2. It allows people to connect with nature.


3. To draw the attention of people towards the benefits of Yoga.

4. To reduce the rate of health challenging diseases all over the world.

5. To bring communities much closer together to spend a day devoted to good
