Toms Vrnagy is Professor of Political Theory at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA),

Argentina since 1987. He was the Director of the Masters Program at the National Defense
School of Argentina (2005-2008). He was also the elected Director (2002-2004) of the
Political Science Department (more than 3,000 students) of the UBA.

Previous teaching experience includes undergraduate and graduate levels at different


national (public) and international universities, including English language posts. Director
and member of research projects and numerous publications (academic and journalistic)
related to political theory, Eastern Central Europe, defense issues and UNs peacekeeping
operations. He was in Kosovo in 2001, teaching a short seminar for Argentine soldiers on
the situation of Yugoslavia.

Toms has dual Argentine and Hungarian citizenship, finished high school in the
United States (1969) and went back to Argentina to study philosophy at UBA, temporarily
abandoning his academic career due to the military dictatorship (1976-83), reason for
which he worked in technical fields (refrigeration, maintenance and repair of containers,
and factory-ships), and also worked as a volunteer in a human rights organization. Last, but
not least, he has raised four sons (born in 1977, 1978, 1980 and 1986).
