Mystics: Conducts ceremonies, sacrifices and offerings to appease evil spirit or witches/
sorcerers.

FLUSHING

The body is thought to be a vessel or container which can collect impurities and must be cleansed. The
Filipino people have a complex system of beliefs based on flushing. Flushing includes inducing vomiting,
flatulence and stimulating sweating and menstrual bleeding. Doing these things are supposed to remove
the evil from a persons body. One way of flushing is by the use of vinegar. Sometimes, it is mixed with
salt, water or hot peppers to induce sweating. This is also thought to cure a chest cold.
