*Summary of Successful Presentation Skills (Third Edition)*

This book talks about how presentations are all about communication. It mentions how

communication is a skill, which means it can be learned. It lists the seven basic steps, which

include: 1) Decide what you want to achieve. 2) Decide whether a formal presentation is the

best way to achieve this objective. 3) If you decide to go ahead with the presentation, decide

what form it should take. 4) Prepare a script. 5) Design and prepare your visual aids and

handouts. 6) Rehearse. 7) Do it.

The book makes a point to the reader that if your style of presentation is not one that

will grab the audiences attention, then the content of the presentation will begin to seem

irrelevant to the audience. An unskilled presenter can present their material to an audience in

such a way that the members of the audience will not only be disinterested about what they are

listening to, but they will be glad once the presentation is over. This book lists five key elements

that are necessary for a good presentation: 1) Outline the purpose. 2) Analyze the audience. 3)

Identify the need. 4) Collate the information. 5) Prepare the communication.

The conclusion of the book discusses how effective communication is essential for business

success. The ability to deliver information is a skill that all people need, but can be difficult to

master. It wraps it up with tips on effective communication, such as: build confidence, be

concise, understand body language, and use visual aids effectively.
