Title: Human Resources Isnt About Humans: HR was never meant for you. Thats why it doesnt work.

Author, Karen Wickre, describes in her article an increasingly popular perception of Human Resources as
a bureaucratic wall that doesnt help employees or companies solve issues. Most Human Resource
departments tout just that they are the problem solvers for the organizations, but this author gives
several examples where most Human Resource departments are falling short insisting that most HR
professionals are not cut out for the job. The author suggests that companies incorporate ombudsman
HR representatives that learn how to listen and escalate matters as needed instead of getting so caught
up in rules and regulations. HR is currently viewed as a corporate function that helps organizations
reach economic goals and develop strategies to further the organization. Thus the term HRBP, HR
Business Partner, is formed. This perception of HR discourages employees from confiding in HR and
seeking out the HR function when issues in the workplace arise. The author also suggests that many HR
professionals fail to listen to what the employees and cultures of organizations are telling them when
pushing their agendas for a better organization and that HR would be more successful if it took into
consideration the interests of the employees as well as the organization.
