Mahabaleshwar

At 1,372 meters above sea level, around Lake Venna, is the highest
hill station in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. Mahabaleshwar is
one of the most spectacular and the largest of Maharashtra hill-
stations. Mahabaleshwar in Sanskrit means God of Great Power. It
was summer capital of Governor of the old Bombay Presidency The
Britishers built various mansions, cottages and bungalows around
the town, lending it a charming, sophistication. There are 30 valley
viewpoints with panoramic vistas scattered around the hill station
and their access roads make for shady, pleasant walks and treks.
Shirdi

Shirdi is a small town on the Ahmednagar- Manmad highway. Situated


around 307 km northeast of Mumbai, the town is around 6 hr drive
from Mumbai. Shirdi is a silent place with population of around
15000. The city earns the major part of its revenue from the tourists
and pilgrims whose number sometimes crosses the 30000 mark
with utmost ease. This holy destination is a home to a great legend
Sai Baba who lived her for around eighty years before he went into
his samadhi some 80 years ago in 1918. Shirdi is mainly a religious
center.
Tarkarli

Tarkarli with a series of pristine beaches made up of white


sand makes it an ideal choice for a holiday weekend. If lucky

finest talcum-powder sand to be found along Konkan. It could
be called the most beautiful beach in all of Maharashtra, if not

Matheran

Located in the Raigad district of Maharashtra, this beautiful hill


station is untouched by the busy city life surrounding it. It has
pleasant weather throughout the year, though this place is most
beautiful during the monsoon season and is also just 54 km and two
hours away from Mumbai. Matheran has been declared as an Eco
sensitive region by the government and automobiles are not allowed
inside the town. It is therefore a very tranquil place with no buzzing
of cars and other modes of transport. There are about 28 points, 2
lakes, 2 parks & 4 major worship places in Matheran.
Murud Janjira

Murud, in the Raigad district with resorts and natural beauty


beckoning you is the place to be for a relaxed, modest vacation, with
sparkling golden beaches. Murud has adventure and spirituality,
infused into its pristine landscapes. Apart from the world class
beaches, there is the Murud Janjira Fort, Kasa Fort , Gol Gumbaz

Goa

names, Pandurang, Vitthal or Pandhari, is supposed to be The
Supreme God of The Universe
Prettily placed on the majestic banks of River Chandra bagha,
Pundalik Temple portrays lord Vitthal as its chief deity. Vitthal is one
among the manifestations of Lord Vishnu. The main shrine is a five-
story building with a pyramidal gun spire. The statue of Jaya and
Vijaya flanks Lord Vithal.
Akkalkot

Akkalkot is widely known for its association with Shri Swami


Samarth Maharaj, held by his devotees to be a reincarnation of
Lord Dattatreya Swami Maharaj lived for over two decades at
Akkalkot, mainly at the residence of his disciple Cholappa, where his
samadhi (tomb) and shrine are now located. The shrine complex,
which is known the Vatavruksh Mandir since it encloses the banyan
tree beneath which the swami would preach his message, is the hub
of devotions for his followers.
Lavasa

The city is a beautiful project, stylistically based on the Italian town


Portofino. Spreading across 7 hills, covering an area of 25000 acres,
Lavasa is a perfect blend of beauty and infrastructure.

Alibaug is a coastal town in the Konkan region well known for its
sandy beaches, clean water and fresh, unpolluted, rejuvenating air.
Alibaug is a subdivision in the Raigad district of Maharashtra and it
has many serene and beautiful beaches, known for its mesmerizingly
calm weather and dense coconut groves. Apart from the beaches,
there are many historical and intricate temples in this region which
are also interesting for tourists here. A walk amidst dense, refreshing
coconut groves could also be very enchanting and relaxing if you are

Lonavala

Popular hill station close to Pune and Mumbai, Lonavla is the place

Kashid

A soothing and calm place in nature's lap, Kashid is mildly

location. This beach town is known also for its majestic

shore that stretches to a vast extent and presents with a

Chaul, which lies near Kashid, has many Buddhist caves that are
of public interest, and also famous churches and temples. The
Korlai Fort is another beautiful attraction here.
Ganapatipule

Ganpatipule is a small town in the Ratnagiri district in Konkan


region with a long stretch of pristine beaches, Ganpatipule is a
perfect idyllic getaway in the slip of nature. Confluence of beach
with river could be witnessed along with a hill shaped like Ganpati,
the Hindu God of worship. The village of Ganapatipule is famous for
its 400-year-old Ganesha temple. The idol is said to be a self-created
monolith of Lord Ganesha, allegedly discovered 1600 years ago.
Untouched by commercialism Ganapatipule makes for a great
destination for peace-seekers, beach lovers and pilgrim alike.
Ganpatipule also has water sports to offer between the months of
November-May. Ganpatipule is typically clubbed with Ratnagiri and
other smaller villages like Velneshwar, Malgund and Pawas for a
perfect 2-3 day trip.
Ashtavinayaka

Ashtavinayaka or eight Ganeshas is located in Maharashtra


state of India, The Ashtavinayaka yatra or pilgrimage covers the
eight holy temples of Ganesha .All the Eight Ashtavinayak
Templs are Swayambhu (self-originated) and Jagrut.There are
various names of Lord Ganesh for various places. The various
names of Lord Ganesh are Moreshwar, Mahaganpati,
Chintamani, Girijatmak,Vighneshwar, Siddhivinayak,
Ballaleshwar and Varad Vinayak . These Temples are situated at
Morgaon, Ranjangaon, Theur, Lenyadri, Ojhar, Siddhatek, Pali
and Mahad. These places are at Pune, Ahamadnagar and Raigad
district. Of the 8 vinayakas, 6 are in Pune district area and 2 in
Raigad district but still comparatively nearer to the Pune areas
Aurangabad

Also an industrial town, Aurangabad is a town as well as district in


Maharashtra and was named after the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. It
serves as a tourist hub with numerous points of interest such as Bibi
ka Maqbara, also known as the Mini Taj Mahal. Ajanta and Ellora caves
are world renowned cave temples dating back more than 2, 000
years and is now part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Aurangabad is also an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus as the
Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga is located just 30 km away from the main
town. Apart from showcasing the era of Mughals through its royalty
and great architectural work, this place is also beautiful as it has two
of the most famous rivers of central India, Godavari & Tapi namely.
Aurangabad is also famous for its hand-woven Himroo and Paithani
Sarees, its markets and colourful crowded bazaars.
Nasik

Nasik is a religious Hindu city, host to the Kumbh Mela every


12 years. It also makes for a perfect wine tasting destination.
Nashik (Nasik), named after a relic associated with Ramayana,
is a city in Maharashtra located on the banks of river Godavari.
Nashik plays host to the famous Kumbh Mela every 12 years.
The city is home to plenty of exotic temples and is known in
Hindu mythology as the place where Ravana's sister,
Surpanakha, tried to seduce Lord Ram and got her nose cut off
by Lakshman in the process. Its religious importance doesn't
end there. It also plays host to the thousands of tourists
visiting Shirdi and Trimbakeshwar.
Kolhapur

Kolhapur is situated on the banks of the river Panchaganga in the


south-west region of Maharashtra. Kolhapur derives its name from a
mythological story of Kolhasur - a demon who was slayed by
Goddess Mahalakshmi. The famous Mahalakshmi temple is situated
here in the honor of Goddess Mahalakshmi.
Kolhapur became a popular place because of it's chappals, jewellery
and cuisine. Kolhapuri chappals, Kolhapuri jewellery and Kolhapuri
cuisine is famous all over India. It is a tourist friendly destination,
having no problem in commuting to accommodation and food. The
people of Kolhapur are people friendly and inviting.
Tuljapur

Tuljapur is a marvel of a pilgrim centre that has seen an ever


increasing influx of tourists and devotees alike for several years now.
The Tulja Bhawani Temple in Tuljapur is the most prominent
attraction that is the reason behind the magnifying quantity of
pilgrims this small village sees so frequently.
Tuljapur is a calm and quiet city based on the Yamunachala Hills of
the Sahayadri Ranges. It is located in the Osmanabad District of the
state of Maharashtra and is situated about 650 metres above sea
level. It lies on the highway from Sholapur to Aurangabad.
Tuljapur was formerly called Chinchpur, that is, the Land of Tamarind
Trees. The history of this region dates back to as much as the 12th
Century.
