YURI GABRIELYAN The Problems of the Origin of the Armenians and the
Armenian Language with Comparison of the Linguistic and Genetic Data. There
are several hypotheses and standpoints from the antique period about the origin of the
Armenian language and the Armenians, about which has been no common opinion so
far. The reason is that there are different approaches concerning these problems and
varied interpretations of linguistic, archaeological, ethnological, anthropological and
other corresponding facts as well.
In this article, an attempt is made to reveal new opportunities for solving the
above-mentioned problems, by comparing the relevant linguistic and genetic (biologi-
cal) data.

Key words: Indo-European protolanguage, Indo-European forefatherland, nostratic the-

ory, molecular genetics, linguogeography, genetic distance, dialect archaism, linguistic relations,
haplogroup, linguistic area, ethnic group
