Pancha Tattwa

There are 5 Tattwa which repeat in the following sequence;

(1) Prithvi, (2) Jala, (3) Agni, (4) Vayu, (5) Akasha.

The 5 Tattwas occupy periods of the day. These tattwa take up time-periods in increasing orders with
Mercury taking up 1 period, whilst Jala, Agni, Vayu and Akasha, take up 2,3,4 and 5 periods
respectively.
This adds upto: 1+2+3+4+5=15 periods of Tattwas.
This moves in an increasing (Aroha) and decreasing (Avaroha) order, i.e.: 1+2+3+4+5+5+4+3+2+1,
corresponding to 1 cycle of 30 Tattwas.

4 of such cycles spread out over a span of day between Sunrise and Sunset, giving us 120 tattwas,
corresponding to the 120 years of life.
The same 120 tattwas spread over the span of Sunset to Sunrise again, giving a total of 240 tattwas in a
day and night.

Hence there are 8 cycles in a day and night, corresponding to the eight Yama. The 8 Yama are lorded by
the 8 grahas from Sun-Rahu, beginning with the Vara lording the day. The deity lording the Yama
should be reckoned from the Kala Chakra:

The Tattwa sequence depends on the Vara (Lord of Weekday), these are offcourse Sun, Moon, Mars,
Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, beginning from Sunday.

Of these, the planets lording the Pancha Tattwas are: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, lording
the Tattwas beginning from Prithvi. Sun is indicative of Agni, whilst Moon is indicative of Jala.
Hence on Mondays or Fridays, the Tattwa will begin with Jala.

Example of calculations:
Date: August 7, 1963
Time: 21:14:00
Time Zone: 5:30:00 (East of GMT)
Longitude: 84 E 01' 00"
Latitude: 21 N 28' 00"
Weekday: Wednesday
Sunrise: 5:29:20 (Sucessive)
Sunset: 18:29:27

1. We must first identify the Tattwa ruling the weekday:

As birth happened on a wednesday, the Prithvi tattwa was dominating, hence sequence is: prithvi, jala,
agni, vayu, akasha.

2. The native was born at night, hence we should calculate the span of night:
5hr 28m 27s 18hr 29m 27s = 10hr 59m 53s

3. Now to find the span of 1 tattwa, we merely divide the result by 120:
10hr 59m 53s / 120 = 5m 30s

4. Now we should find the ammount of night progressed, until birth, by subtracting the birthtime
from Sunset:
21hr 14m 00s 18hr 29m 27s = 2hr 44m 33s

5. From ammount of progressed time and Tattwa-span, we can find out the Tattwa at birth:
2hr 44m 33s / 5m 30s = ~29,92

Hence the native was born in the 30th tattwa.

The 30th tattwa in a wednesday cycle is Prithvi, which will lord the birth.

6. The Yama should also be calculated on the basis of the day of the Vara.
4 Yamas have already passed before sunset, and the native was born on the 5 Yama of Wednesday. The
order beginning with Mercury is: Merc, Jup, Venus, Saturn, Rahu... Hence the native is born during
the Yama of Rahu.

Usage of Tattwa

i)The natural tattwas of the bhavas, spread from Lagna to 12th in the following order: Agni, Prithvi,
Vayu, Jala. Akasha is in all houses and binds the other tattwas together.

ii)The tattwas have the following relations:

Prithvi and Vayu are enimical towards each other.
Agni and Jala are enimical towards each other.
Akasha has no enemies.
iii)The tattwa enimical to birth-tattwa, will show some problems, the natural houses it lords. This is to
be seen from the planet lording the tattwa, i.e.
Similarly the lord of the natives own Tattwa will indicate their appearance on this planet, as well as
their troubles (in case of afflictions, etc).

iv)Birth during Tattwa Sandhi (not cycle sandhi), will cause health problems, especially during
Gandanta (between Jala and Agni Tattwa).

v)The Pancha Devata which lord these Tattwa, are important for keeping the Tattwa strong. These are:
Ganapati, Devi, Surya, Shiva and Vishnu, lording the Tattwas from Prithvi, onwards.

Exampe chart:

The following native was born in Prithvi Tattwa, hence Mercury is important for this native, and
Ganesh should be worshipped to keep the native strong.

The Native was born during Rahu-Yama, who sits in the NE direction in the Kala Chakra, opposite
Mercury in the SW. This causes definite problems with Mecury/prithvi tattwa.

Mercury lords Prithvi Tattwa, and is placed in the 6th house under a papakartari Yoga by Mars and Sun,
confirming troubles to the natives health.

Prithvi and Vayu Tattwas are enimical towards each other and Vayu Tattwa is lorded by Saturn. Saturn
lords the natural 10th and 11th houses, of which the 10th house rules the knees, whilst 11th rules the calfs.

The native has problems with his knees, also he was bit by a dog during Mercury Antar Dasa.

Hence it can be inferred that the Tattwa is essential to see the health and strength og the native, as well
as possible ailments to the body.
