Maximum resolvable resolution on the 1951 USAF target can be selected by taking a line profile
through the elements in group 5

As seen from the line profile, the smallest resolvable element in group 5 is element 4. From table 3.1
in the textbook, this corresponds to a spatial frequency of 45.25 lp/mm in object space. Given
magnification of -0.5. Therefore,

It was also observed that the system has different spatial frequency in x and y axis. In x axis the
smallest resolvable element in group 5 is element 3, which corresponds to an image space spatial
frequency of 80.64 lp/mm (or cyc/mm).
