Community Events Recap

Our   Frenchtown   Cleanup   (left   photo)   was   a   success   thanks   to   all   the   hard   working  
volunteers   and   members   of   the   City   of   Houston   Neighborhood   Protection   Corps.   We  
were  able  to  make  great  progress  in  giving  the  community  the  attention  it  deserves.  The  
Frenchtown  Cleanup  is  one  in  a  series  of  cleanups  throughout  District  B.  
 

Council   Member   Johnson   had   the   opportunity   to   speak   at   Holland   Middle   School   in   the  
Pleasantville  area.  He  discussed  with  students,  the  importance  of  overcoming  adversity.  He  also  joined  the  students  of  
Benji’s  Academy  and  shared  insight  on  how  to  prepare  for  life.    
 

On  June  23rd,  Council  Member  Johnson  had  the  privilege  of  honoring  longtime  KCOH  radio  
personality,   Michael   Harris,   for   his   decades   of   achievement,   and   influence   in   Houston.  
Joining  Council  Member  Johnson  in  paying  tribute  to  Harris  were  Mayor  Parker,  Controller  
Green  as  well  as  fellow  Council  Members  Bradford,  Adams,  and  Jones.  
 

The   women,   and   men   of   the   National   Association   of   Minority   Contractors   (NAMC)   –  
Houston   (left   photo)   acknowledged   Council   Member   Johnson  
on  June  25th  during  the  organization’s  4th  Annual  Black  &  White  
Gala   where   he   accepted   the   distinction   of   Hall   of   Fame  
honoree.   Council   Member   Johnson   previously   secured   government   funds   for   the   NAMC   –  
Houston  Imagine  Project  mentoring,  and  adult  training  program.    
 

CM   Johnson   joined   HUD   secretary   Shaun   Donovan   (right   photo)   at   Kennedy   Place  
Redevelopment   Project.   Secretary   Shaun   Donovan   came   to   promote   how   the   stimulus  
money  is  helping  the  economy  and  the  American  people.
