Tata Steel Limited (formerly known as Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited, TISCO) is an Indian multinational steel

making company headquartered in Mumbai and a subsidiary of Tata Group.

Founded by Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, Natrajan Chandrasekaran is the chairman and T.V. Narendran is the
Managing Director of Tata Steel India and South East Asia.

Total revenue generated by Tata Steel in year 2016 is 117151 Crore (US $ 18 billion) with a total of 74000
employees working under it till date.

It is one of the top steel producing companies globally with an annual crude capacity of 23.88 million tonnes (in FY
2017) and second largest steel company in India with an annual capacity of 9.7 million tonnes after SAIL.

Largest plant of Tata Steel is in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand and manufacturing operations in 26 countries including
China, Australia, Netherland, Singapore, Thailand and UK.

In August 2004, Tata Steel agreed to acquire the steel making operations of the Singapore-based NatSteel for
$486.4 million in cash. The acquisition was completed in February 2005. At the time of acquisition, NatSteel had a
capacity of about 2 million tonnes per annum of finished steel.

Tata Steel acquired a majority stake in the Thailand-based steelmaker Millennium Steel for a total cost of $130
million. It paid US$73 million to Siam Cement for a 40% stake and offered to pay for another 25% of the shares of
other shareholders. At the time of acquisition, Millennium Steel was the largest steel company in Thailand with a
capacity of 1.7 million metric tonnes per annum, producing long products for construction and engineering steel
for auto industries.

On 20 October 2006, Tata Steel signed a deal with Anglo-Dutch company, Corus to buy 100% stake at 4.3bn ($8.1
billion) however due to counter offers from Brazilian steel company Companhia Siderurgica Nacional, on 31
January 2007, Tata Steel won their bid for Corus after offering 608 pence per share, valuing Corus at 6.7 billion
($12 billion).

Tata Steel has market share of 12% of steel industry in India target to make it 20% by 2020.
