METHOD STATEMENT FOR TURFING

1.0 General

Areas to be turfed are all embankment fill slopes and cut slopes. The slopes shall be
close turfed.

1.1 Site Preparation

For the areas to be turf, pre-turfing fertilizer (approved type) with N:P:K of 10:15:10%
shall be worked into the top 50mm of the soil.

1.2 Turfs

a) Turfs shall be square in shape, 300x3OOmm and 25mm thick minimum.


Cultivated glass content shall not less than 85%. It shall be free from wild or
annual grasses, creeping stoloniferos perennial weeds.

b) Turfs will be of cow grass species, which is widely used, and a fast growing
type.

1.3 Storage

a) Turfs will be delivered to site within 36 hours of being cut.

b) It will be stored at site by stacking grass to grass to a maximum height of


l.0m.

c) Turf will be laid within 48 hours after delivery to site. Turf stored on site for a
period more than 48 hours will not be used except with the approval of the
Engineer.

1.4 Laying of Turf

a) The turfs will be laid to a well-bonded pattern with no gaps between the turfs
lightly beaten.

b) On slopes exceeding 1 on 4, each turf will be secured with a wooden peg of


at least 230mm long driven into the soil and flush with the top of the turf

1.5 After Turf Care

a) Turf will be moved with cutting blades set at 40mm above ground. The first
and subsequent mowing will be carried out when the grass reached 75-
100mm higher at the time to be agreed with the Engineer.

b) The grass area will be cleared of all glass cuttings.

c) Turf will not be mowed before or during monsoon.

1.6 Team and Anticipated Output


Five teams of workers each will be deployed. Anticipated output per team -500 square meter
per day.
