Actress Sindi Dlathu’s long absence from our television screens causes concern, Phakamani Mvelashe reports TRESS Sindi Dlathu, who is best known by her character name Thandaza, got her fans worried when Move! revealed that she collapsed while filming earlier this year. The 42-year-old Muvhango actress from Meadowlands in ‘Soweto was rushed to hospital at the time and she was treated for severe fatigue. The soapie's publicist, Amanda Ngudle, later confirmed to Move! that Sindi was on sick leave due to exhaustion. She added that the doctor had ordered Sindi to stay away from the set and not take any work-related calls. IS HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF? Now Thandaza - the powerful businesswoman, loving wife and the caring mother that viewers have come to love over the years = has once again disappeared from Muvhango, which airs every \ Weeknight at 9pm. Muvhango is d the third most-watched show in South Africa after Generations - The fanslong tosee the powerful Thandaza, played by si Diathu, back on their television screens CI Legacy and newbie, Skeem Sam. Many actors have come and gone but Sindi, who has been on the show since its inception, has stood the test of time. She has become the face of the show and has contributed immensely to its success. It's hard to imagine her playing any other role other than ‘Thandaza. According to the storyline, Thandaza has gone on a business trip to Nigeria. Now enquiring minds want to know if Sindi is off sick again. Viewers’ concerns over her are not surprising, considering that she's one of the most-loved actresses in the country. Word on the street is that she might not have fully recovered after collapsing on set and could be on sick leave again. She has not been on our television screens for weeks now and fans have been asking when she will be coming back. Muvhango is keeping its cards pretty close to its chest regarding the matter. When contacted, ‘Amanda was cagey about the actress’ whereabouts and said she had to quickly answer another call. FATIGUE DUE TO HER HECTIC SCHEDULE Sindi's severe fatigue has in the past been attributed to her hectic work schedule. She is the longest serving member of the Muvhango cast. She has once revealed in an interview that her day starts at 4.30am because she has to be at the studio by 6.30am for make-up and wardrobe before shooting her scenes. "My normal day is about 12 hours. ‘Most people think that being on television is all glamorous but honestly, it’s hectic? she said at the time. ‘Move! tried numerous times to have an interview with Sindi, but she kept postponing. ‘Muvhango's publicist has let it slip to Movel that Sindi is currently busy with some other business, which she promised to reveal at alater date. “Please give her a month or so. She's wrapping up a cosmetic deal ‘Amanda said but would not go into details. This is news tous as the media- shy Sindi has never endorsed anything since starting her career in the entertainment industry - besides promoting Muvhango and doing SABC roadshows. LETTING HER WORK DO THE TALKING The very private actress, who has featured on numerous productions including Sarafina, Khululeka and Soul City, has let her work do the talking for her. “Being private wasn’t something that | consciously planned. It’s who | am ~ how I've always been,” she says."If open up too much, Ifeel like my life will stop being a journey,’ she told Move! during an eatlier interview. The actress says she’s not dazzled by fame but she appreciates the love she gets from her fans. “Idid not get into this industry for fame. To me, this is a job just like any other. m working,’ she says. Sindi has been married for 19 years and has no children. The fact that she plays the role of being Vusi and Dakalo’s mother so well in ‘Muvhango makes it hard to believe that she doesn't have her own kids. “I want kids but | don’t have them as yet. But | really want them,"she told a popular blog. HER PASSION FOR MUSIC She started her acting career in the musical, Sarafina, so it was no surprise when she promised to release an album a few years ago. “I've decided to diversify my career. Iwill be releasing my new album in 2011 around May. This album will be a deliciously eclectic mix of maskandi, afro-pop and hints of electric guitar. Keep watching’ she blogged.
