Three firearms seized at ports of entry in Northwestern Ontario

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers at the Pigeon River and Rainy River ports of
entry (POE) seized three undeclared firearms on Canada Day.

On July 1, 2017, at the Pigeon River POE a New Mexico resident was referred for a secondary
examination by the CBSA. During the examination, officers found the frame of firearm
concealed within the travellers bag. Upon further examination, officers also discovered a holster
in the front console cup holder. At that point, the traveller admitted to disassembling the firearm
and concealing the remainder of the parts throughout his luggage, including two loaded eight
round magazines.

On July 1, 2017, at the Rainy River POE, the CBSA referred two Texas residents for a
secondary examination. During the examination, officers immediately found a loaded firearm in
its holster underneath the centre armrest. One traveller then admitted to having another firearm
in the vehicle. The second firearm was found in a bag in the front seat.

The firearms and magazines were seized and the travellers were arrested.

Canada. If you bring firearms with you, be sure to declare them upon entry to Canada. I am

Anyone importing firearms and weapons into Canada must declare them and meet all
licensing and registration requirements under the Firearms Act.
Failure to declare goods, including firearms and weapons, and other Customs Act
contraventions may lead to prosecution in a court of law.
