Atomic Layer Deposition of ZnO on Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes and Its Use for Synthesis of CNT

ZnO Heterostructures

X. L. Li , C. Li , Y. Zhang , D. P. Chu , W. I. Milne and H. J. Fan in their research have found that atomic
layer deposition of ZnO thin layers on PECVD grown CNTs have a ZnO shell that is continuous and
uniform along the tube long axis. They have also found with Raman and PL that the shells have a
reasonably good crystalline quality. Also they have shown that this ZnO layer can be used as a seed layer
for the hydrothermal growth of CNT-ZnO 3D hybrid nanostructure.

ZnO dots and CNTs

ZnO quantum dots prepared exhibit a high crystalline quality acceptable for optoelectronic application.
Electrical characterizations of the devices on ITO glass, substrates showed that the charge transfer
characteristics at the ZnO QD-MWCNT hetero structures offer promising applications in UV PV cells.
