REFLECTION PAPER
(Political Culture)

In our PhilSoc class, we learned that there are three types of political culture, and these
are: Parochial, Subject, and Participant. Parochial citizen is a person who do not participate in
political affairs. Subject citizen is a person who is aware of what our government is doing.
However, they just only know the countrys governmental system but these people do not
actually participate in the input functions.

Before my PhilSoc and PolGov class, I consider myself as a Parochial Citizen. When I was
in High School, I really hate the subject Araling Panlipunan or Hekasi because I find it really hard
to understand what my teacher is teaching especially when I really dont watch the news and
when I have no idea on what is happening within our country and government. Honestly, I find
the subject really boring because it is my least favorite subject. I dont enjoy listening to histories,
or even stories about the current status of our government. In short, I dont really care about
what is happening in our government.

After my PhilSoc and PolGov class, I now consider myself as a Subject Citizen because
now, I know what the role of our current government should be doing. I also find it very
interesting now that we have Duterte as our President. It seems like there are so many things
happening and now I can give my opinions about it. I know that there were also a lot of things
happening before, but since Im not confident with my opinions, I prefer not to share it with my
friends. Now that Ive become more aware of the government, I can now say my thoughts about
the current issues to my friends and they will agree to it. Right now, Im not yet seeing myself as
a Participant. I dont think that Im ready to make that impact to our political system because I
still have a lot of things to know and understand.
