I. Thesis

Perry's emphasis on insecurity, ego, and intimacy give us an interesting look at ourselves
from a perspective which, while sometimes frightening, can help us look inward and understand
ourselves in a new light.

II. Topic sentence for Insecurity

Insecurity is one of the major elements Perry focuses on when evaluating ourselves.

1. " Why is it that, when you are shown a group photograph in which you are present,
you always (and probably covertly) seek yourself out?"

you always (and probably covertly) seek yourself out?" (Perry 7)

III. Topic sentence for ego

According to Perry, our relationship with our ego and how we define ourselves shapes
the context of how we see our lives.

1. "The self is an individual entity created by God and endowed with certain inalienable

rights and the freedom to pursue happiness and fulfill its potential." (Perry 12)

IV. Topic sentence for intimacy

Intimacy with ourselves and others is another topic which Perry sheds some light on, not
only romantically but with all our relationships.

1. "Thus, you might describe an acquaintance named Gary McPherson as fairly good
company, moderately trustworth, funny but a little malicious, and so on."
