2016 Holiday Dinner

Anita McCollum

Okay, I admit it, I fell down on the job. I was too busy
enjoying good company and being distracted by my darling
grand daughter and fabulous son and husband that I neglected
to get photos from our holiday dinner.
I can tell you that we had quite the turn out even though we
A shining light in the distance. had to change venues late in the game. Who knew the Golden
Corral, our holiday staple, was going to shut their doors?
Thank the holiday spirits that be, Chuck-A-Rama had room
for our crowd at such a late date. The food was good and we
got an area we could close off so we could raise a good candy
cane ruckus without disturbing their other guests.
Gifts galore kept changing hands as Sally Warren kept them
and us going at dosey-doe pace with a rhyming holiday ditty.
Where she comes up with these things, I dont know but they
work and are a lot of fun. No one ever walks away feeling Bah!
Humbug or Scroogish.

Garnet How Does Garnet Form?

Garnet in Metamorphic Rocks
Geology.com

Most garnet forms at convergent plate boundaries where shale is being

acted upon by regional metamorphism. The heat and pressure of
metamorphism breaks chemical bonds and causes minerals to recrystallize
into structures that are stable under the new temperature-pressure
environment. The aluminum garnet, almandine, generally forms in this
environment. As these rocks are metamorphosed, the garnets start as
tiny grains and enlarge slowly over time as metamorphism progresses. As

garnets are highly regarded in the gem trade; they are tsavorite (a bright
green grossular) and demantoid (a golden-green andradite).
