Please describing a weakness you overcame:

I was working as a server at a restaurant for 6 years when I was fortunate to be considered as a
candidate for shift manager. I had several doubts whether to pursue this step in my career in the
restaurant industry. I decided to go for it, despite my uncertainty. Training and transition was
done with the outgoing shift manager and the general manager of the restaurant both on my
side. For three months, I was taught everything I needed to know how to properly and efficiently
manage the restaurant. It was the day-to-day experience that made me capable of being a shift
manager. One of my weaknesses can be doubting myself. I am learning to trust more my
intuition and my abilities.

One of the main duties of a shift manager is to handle and assign tasks to other employees. It
was difficult at first to be comfortable interacting with team members who were once my co-
ranks, now that I was the manager overseeing operations. I learned that I needed to be less
worried about what they would think and more concerned with being the kind of leader that I
wanted to be led by. More so, being the kind of leader that I knew I could be. The transition went
smoothly and all welcomed the change.

There have been many small instances similar to this. I am learning through maturity and
understanding to not let my fear hinder my growth. I try to say yes to more opportunities that feel
right, and this is one of those opportunities. I hope to be welcomed as a member of your service
team. I am ready to lead and contribute to the success of this growing operation.
