AEO--3: Health and Environment - A short overview
AEO

The issues of environment and health are

characterised by multi-causality with different
strengths of associations.

Thus, links between exposures and their health

consequences depend on environmental
pollutants and diseases being considered.

Influenced byy factors such as g

genetic
constitution, age, nutrition and lifestyle, levels
poverty
p y and level of education.
AEO--3: Health and Environment - A short overview
AEO

Africa experiences both traditional and

new/emerging
new/emerging environmental challenges to
human health

Air quality and water and sanitation are still

traditional environmental threats of relevance

Those related to chemicals and chemical

hazards, urbanisation, ecosystem services and
biodiversity, climate change, constitute the
new/emerging threats.

Vulnerable population groups are more impacted.
