‘THE KUWAIT INSTITUTE FOR MEDICAL SPECIALTIES SECTION 10270 ACCESS FLOORING PART -1, GENERAL 4.01 WORK INCLUDED ‘A. ‘Access floor contractor shall provide submittals, materials and installation of the access floor system as shown on the contract drawings and as specified in this document. 1.02 RELATED WORK NOT INCLUDED ‘A. The Contractor shall provide clear access, dry secure storage, and a clean sub-floor area which is free of construction debris and other trades during installation of the access floor system. Area to receive the access floor shall be enclosed and be maintained at a temperature range of 40°C to $0°F and 2 humidity range of 20% to 70% relative. Concrete sealer shall be compatible with access floor pedestal adhesive, see Division - 3, ©. Electrical Contractor shall provide necessary material and-labor to electricity connect the ‘access floor to the building; see Division 16. 1.03 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION ‘A. Access floor system shall consist of inter-chengeable square panals selected to meet ‘spatific load requirements. Panels shall be supported by adjustable pedestal assomblies which positively locate, engage and secure panels and which accommodate horizontal grid members when specified B. Finished floor height of the system above the sub floor shall be as shown on the shop drawings. 1.04 SHOP DRAWINGS & PRODUCT DATA ‘A. Submit shop drawings showing compete access floor system including floor pane! layout and all accessories that are a part of the system. B. Submit details and descriptive notes for finishes of components, anchoring, edge details, and interfaces with agjoining work. 4.05 SAMPLES ‘A. Submit for approval one fullsize floor panel with finished surface and understructure components for each type of access floor system being supplied 4.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE ‘A. Submit certified laboratory test data for approval which indicates that the supplied system complies with the performance indicated harein. Test methods for concentrated, ultimate, rolling, overturning moment, and axial loads shall be in accordance with the "Recommended Test Procedures for ‘Access Floors" as published by CISCA, the Calling and interiors Systems Construction Association, 2. Test Method for Impact Load: Panel without floor covering shall be supported on actual understructure. An impact load is applied to the panel via a one squere inch indenter which is struck by @ predetermined load dropped from a height of 36°. The panel shall be loaded al its weakest point. Weakest point to be determined by an independent test lab. 3. Test Method for Electrical Resistance: The electrical resistance of the access floor system shall be tested in accordence with NFPA 99, The test is modified for access floors where one electrode is placed on the floor surface covering and the ‘other electrode is attached to the understructure. PART 2 -PRODUCTS MANUFACTURERS, Manufacturers: The products and manufacturers specified hereinafter are specified for the purpose of establishing minimum quality standards. Products equal in quality to or better than those specified, will be considered acceptable. General: Provide access flooring system (ACS) consisting of removable panels supported by adjustable steel pedestals from one of the following manufacturers or other approved equal: 1. Substitutions wil be considered, providing design criteria is met or exceeded Floor Panels: Stool wrapped medium density fleerboard (MDF) panels with corners milled to receive flush recessed comer clamps; 23.46" x 23.46" by 0.709" thick (696mm x 598mm x 18mm). Modular Base System: Non-combustible steel structural support cylinders over molded into interconnecting fire retardant polypropylene wabbing with locking tabs to connect adjacent base modules. Support cylinders are field removable. Provide molded cable tie anchor points on webbing between each cylinder. 1. The size of the Modular Base shall be 3,878 sa. ft (0.36 sq.m.) with dimensions of 23.62" x 23.62" x 1.79" high (600mm x 600mm x 45.5mm), 2. The Cylinder Size shall be 2 in. (50.8mm) in diameter x 1.67" (42.5) high 3. The Cylinder Spacing shall be 7 7/8" (200mm) on center. 4. The Cable Raceway shall run § 7/8" (149.2mm) wide. 5. Leveling Shims shall consist of steel shim 0.59" thick x 2.25" in diameter (14.99mmx 57.15mm). 6. The Weight of the Modular Base shall be 1.35 Ibs. (0.61kg.). 7. Comer Clamps shall be metal screw clamps designed to secure the corners of four adjacent floor panels to the modular base systoms. Air Flow Panels: Panels shall be all steel welded construction with a 25% open air perforated top sheet and shall be supplied with an adjustable damper assembly. Panels shall be capable of supporting a design load of 1250Ibs on fone square inch anywhere on the panel. Permanent set under this design load shall not exceed 0.010 inches. Panels with an adjustable damper assembly and 1260lb design load shall provide 525 CFM at a static pressure of 0.1" H20. Panels without an adjustable damper assembly shall provide 800 CFM at a static pressure of 0.1" H,0. 3. Provide manufacturers standard steps, ramps, handrails closure plates, plenum dividers, cove base, access holes in locations and as detailed on the shop drawings. 4, Provide ten spare floor panels and ten square feet of understructure systems: for each type used in the project for maintenance stock. Deliver to project in manufacturer's standard packages clearly marked with the contents, 5. Provide panel iting devices. EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION A Qualification: Floor system and accessories to be installed by the manufacturer's authorized representative to maintain the integrity of the products and acceptable performance of the completed installation. Inspection 1 Examine sub-floor for unevenness, irregularities and dampness that would affect the quality and execution of the work 2 Do not proceed with installation until subvfloor surfaces are clean, dry, clear of other trades and ready to receive access flooring ©. Preparation and Installation 1. The access floor to be prepared and installed in accordance with the access floor manufacturer's instructions covering preparation, layout, alignment and instalation 2. Installed access floor shall be level within plus or minus 0.060 inches in 10 feet, ‘and plus of minus 0.10 inches over the entire area, Floor to be rigid end free of rocking panel D. Adjust and Clean 1, Remove access floor installation debris as work progresses, maintaining area under finished floor in a clean condition. 2. Maintain temperature in storage area between 13 degrees C and 32 degrees C. C. Store materials for not less than 48 hours prior to installation in area of installation at temperature of 21 degrees C to achieve temperature stability. Double cut sheet; provide heat-welded seams. Where floor finishes are different on opposite sides of door, terminate flooring under centerline of door. Install edge strips at unprotected or exposed edges, where flooring terminates, and where indicated. Secure metal strips after installation of flooring with stainless steel screws. Install coved base as detailed on drawings, using coved base filler as backing at floor to wall junction. Install flooring in recessed floor access covers. Maintain floor pattern. At movable partitions, install flooring under partitions without interrupting floor patter. Install feature strips where indicated, Fit joints tightly.
