FEATURES OF HUME U-DRAINS ‘© Hume U-Drains are available in both Standard sizes (or widths s 1800mmm) and Super sizes (for widths between 2100 mm and 3600 ram) ‘© Hume U-Drains are available both with and without Dry Weather Flow (DWP channels. ‘© Fasily handled and laid, Hume U-Drain allow for fast construction of waterwayslopen flow channels using high quality factory cast units with a minimum of wet concrete works. DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS: © Hume U-Draine are designed to the requirements of BS 81101985 with the following cancrete cover to reinforcement: Standard sio U-Drains:25 mm cover Super size U-Drains : 0 mm cover Hume U-Drains are mado from high strength concrete with a 28 day characteristic strenath of 0 MPa - 40 MPa. Hume U-Drains are designed for the standard load conditions shown below: ve Load of 10 kPa on wrest ‘Maximum 600 mn J ‘Soll parameter used ‘Angle of internal ction 30° Coefficent of active earth pressure 0.83 ‘Buk density of compacted backfil 19 kNim? JOINTING. ‘*) Hume U-Drains are supplied with plain Dutt joints in standard lengths of 1 metre. Where necessary, cement ‘mortar is normally used to fill the gap betwween U-Drain units. HANDLING * The weepholes provided in the U- Drains units double up as lifting holes for handling. A spreader beam should bo used when slinging the units to avoid crackin the legs. (See figure) LAYING © For most installations, Hume U-Draina may be laid on sand bedding However, in bad ground, it may be necessary to excavate deeper and place layer of hard core before placing the sand bedding. STACKING ‘© ALU-Drains should preferably be stacked uniformly on level ground.
