CHINA BOY

Key: F
Tempo: 260 bpm
Number of choruses: 6
Arrangement:

-4 bar intro: F F#dim7 Gm C7 F/A Abdim7 Gm7 C7

Improvisation tips:

Soloists often choose one of the two chords (Bbm or C7) to outline bars 13-14. The Bbm6
(Gm7b5) arpeggio is a popular choice among Gypsy Jazz guitarists.

During the Ab modulation, most musicians stay in the general Ab tonality without necessarily
outlining each chord at their exact occurrences. Nonetheless, it would still be a good idea to learn
to navigate between the I and V chord; the trick is to avoid playing too many notes and to think
in terms of motifs.

On bars 29-30, soloists will usually imply a II V sound (Gm7 C7). It is also possible to stay on F
throughout. Experiment with the different possibilities.
