Henri Cartier-Bresson (1908-2004)

Henri Cartier-Bresson was

a french photographer, considered
by many, including myself, one of
the masters of photography of all
times. His outstanding work and
pioneerism on candid photography
opened a whole new horizon of
possibilities, inspiring generations
of people. For this journal I chose a
series of pictures taken in one of
Bresson trips to India in the
beginning on the fifties. In this body
of work, HCB uses his outstanding
talent to capture magical moments.

teaching the stories of the Ramayana and the
Mahabharata.
In Palni, a small town south of
Coimbatore (1950), Bresson captures a
touching moment of a big pilgrimage that took
place on the 1st full moon of April and gathered
hundreds of thousands of people.

Following, HCB makes an stunning

register of the funeral of Bhagwan Sri Ramana
Maharshi, a important guru of the twentieth
century in India, as we can see in the two
images here. In every picture from Bresson, it
is possible to notice his tremendous capability
of catching the right time, known by his
concept of decisive moment, which influenced
every photographer after him. Funeral of the Bhagwan Sri Ramana
