During this time Katie was a part-time support staff who reported to myseif, Denise Brady, as the Director of the Capital Area Science and Mathematics Center (CASM). CASM provides services to advance STEM education for both educators and students across a five-county region that includes Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, lonia, and Shiawassee Counties. Katie's main responsibilities included; answering questions via phone and in person regarding professional leaming and student programs; keeping a website up to date; preparing materials for professional learning for ‘teachers; ordering necessary materials and preparing the venues, often off-site, for events. Katie's strength lied in the fact that she had background knowledge regarding mathematics and education in general. She was a huge asset in being able to understand and relate to questions that teachers and students might have regarding the programming offered in STEM education through CASM. She could understand the vocabulary and language necessary to clearly communicate with the audience she was engaging with, as well as preparing materials in the topic areas. | am personally thrilled that Katie has pursued her goals of becoming a teacher. | hope to someday work with her again as an educator.
