Installation Considerations
InstallationandmaintenanceoftheION7300seriesmetershouldonlybe
performedbyqualified,competentpersonnelthathaveappropriatetrainingand
experiencewithhighvoltageandcurrentdevices.Themetermustbeinstalledin
accordancewithallLocalandNationalElectricalCodes.

DuringnormaloperationoftheION7300seriesmeter,hazardousvoltagesare
presentonitsterminalstrips,andthroughouttheconnectedpotential
transformer(PT),currenttransformer(CT),digital(status)input,controlpower
andexternalI/Ocircuits.PTandCTsecondarycircuitsarecapableofgenerating
lethalvoltagesandcurrentswiththeirprimarycircuitenergized.Follow
standardsafetyprecautionswhileperforminganyinstallationorservicework
(i.e.removingPTfuses,shortingCTsecondaries,etc.).
Theterminalstripsonthemeterbaseshouldnotbeuseraccessibleafter
installation.
Donotusedigitaloutputdevicesforprimaryprotectionfunctions.These
includeapplicationswherethedevicesperformenergylimitingfunctionsor

groundconductor.

This quantity is only available when the meter's Volts Mode is set to 4-WIRE WYE. If the Power Meter module

WebMeter Embedded Web Server Feature


EthernetmetersincludeWebMeterfunctionality;anonboardwebserverthat
providesquickandeasyaccesstorealtimeenergyandbasicpowerquality
informationwithoutspecialsoftware.Thebuiltinwebpagesdisplayarangeof

Using the Front Panel Buttons for Configuration


PresstheRoundbuttontwicetoaccesstheSetupmenus.Usethefrontpanels

Navigating Menus
Eachmenuhasatitledisplayedatthetopofthedisplayscreenandmenuitems
displayedbelowthetitle.Usethearrowbuttonstoscrollthroughthemenuitems.
Toselectanitemthatishighlighted,presstheRoundbutton.Toreturntothe
previousscreen,selectRETURN.Returntothedatadisplayscreensbyrepeatedly
selectingRETURN.

Editing Registers
Toeditthevalueofaregister,navigatethroughtheregistersusingthearrowkeys
untiltheregisteryouwantishighlighted,thenpresstheRoundbutton.The
registerappearsinoneoftwoways:asanumber,orasanoptionselectedfroma
menu.Onceyouhaveenteredthepassword(ifrequired),aYESorNOverification
screenappearsshowingthenewvalueoftheregister.SelectYEStochangethe
valueofthesetupregister;selectNOtoreturntothepreviousscreenwithout

Numeric Registers
Usethearrowbuttonstochangethevalueofthedigitabovethe cursor.
Changethepositionofthecursorbyholdingdownanarrowkeyforaboutone
second.HoldingtheUparrowbuttonmovesthecursorleftoneposition,and
holdingtheDownarrowbuttonmovesthecursorrightoneposition.Onceyou

Writing Errors
Iftheconfirmationscreendoesnotappearforavalidentry,orthedisplayreports

Thissettingchangestheamountoftimethefrontpanelsbacklightstaysonwhen
thefrontpanelisidle.Thebacklighthasalimitedlifespan;toprolongit,you
shouldonlyhavebacklightingonwhenyouareactivelyusingthefrontpanel.
SelectBACKLIGHTTIMEOUT,thenusethefrontpanelsbuttonstochangethe
amountoftimeinsecondsthatthebacklightstaysonafterabuttonispressed.

Display Update
Thedisplayupdatespecifieshowfrequentlydataonthedisplayscreenis
refreshed.Youmayfindthevaluesarebeingupdatedtoofrequently,orthatthe
datashownonscreenlagstoofarbehindtheactualvalues.Thedefaultupdaterate
isfourseconds;usethefrontpanelsbuttonstochangetheupdateratetosuityour
needs.

Display Mode
Therearetwodisplaymodes:PROGRAMMABLEMODEandFIXEDMODE.Thedefault
isprogrammablemode,whichprovideseightdatadisplayscreenswhichcanbe
configuredtomeetyourrequirements(seeCustomFrontPanelDisplays).Fixed
Modedisplaysfourscreens,eachwithlargecharactersinthedisplay,easilyvisible
fromadistance.ThefourfixedmodescreensdisplayAverageVolts,Average
Amps,kWtotal,andPFtotal.Youcannotcustomizethefixedmodedisplays.

Screen Setup Menu


TheSCREENSETUPmenuscreenallowsyoutochangethedatadisplayedonthe
eightdisplayscreens.FromtheSELECTSETUPmenu,selectSCREENSETUP.Thelist
ofdisplaytitlesappearthatcorrespondtoeachoftheeightdisplayscreens(see
DefaultFrontPanelDisplayScreens).Thescreennumberwithanasterix(*)
besideitindicatestheactivedisplay(thescreendisplayedbeforeyouentered
SELECTSETUP).Selectthescreenyouwanttochange,andpresstheRoundbutton.

1. FromtheSELECTSETUPmenu,selectSCREENSETUP.Thelistofdisplaytitles
appearsthatcorrespondtoeachoftheeightdisplayscreens.Thescreen
numberwithanasterix(*)besideitindicatestheactivedisplay(thescreen
displayedbeforeyouenteredSELECTSETUP).
2. Selectthescreenyouwanttochange,andpresstheRoundbutton.Twosettings
appear,VALUESandSTYLE,thatallowyoutospecifywhichmeasurementsto
display.
3. SelectSTYLEifyouneedtochangethenumberofdisplayedparametersinthe
selectedscreen.
Thissettinghasfiveoptionsforeachdisplayscreen:ONEPARAMETER,TWO
PARAMETER,THREEPARAMETER,FOURPARAMETER,andDISABLED.Selectthe
numberofvaluesyouwanttodisplay(thefewerthevaluesyouselectfor
display,thelargerthemeasurementwillappearonthedisplayscreen).
Ifyouselectalargestyle(forexample,onevalue)foradisplayscreenthatisset
todisplaymorethanonevalue,thefrontpanelwillwarnyouwithamessage,
andwilldisplayonlythefirstvaluethelinkstotheundisplayablevaluesare
severedandwillhavetobereprogrammed.
4. SelectVALUEStochangethedisplayedparameterintheselectedscreen.
Whenyouchangethevaluedisplayedonascreen,youarepresentedwitha
completelistofthemetersmeasurements.Usingthelistsofmodulesprovided,
selectthevaluesyouwanttohavedisplayedonthatdisplayscreen.
ThenumberofVALUESyoucanselectisafunctionoftheSTYLEsetting.You
cannotselectmorevaluesthantheSTYLEissettodisplay.

Restoring the Factory Configuration


Ifyouhavemadechangestothedefaultfunctionalityandwanttoreturntothe
factoryconfiguration,youcanreinitializethefactoryconfigurationinthemeter
usingIONsoftware.Thebasicsetupofthedevicecanberetained,sothemeter
doesnotneedtobetakenoutofserviceforalongperiodoftime.

NOTE
If you restore the factory configuration, all custom features you have created are lost.

Using Designer
1. DisplaythemetersmainConfigurationscreeninDesigner.
2. ChooseSelectAllfromtheEditmenu,thenpressDelete.

CAUTION
Persistent modules can be overwritten in Designer. When pasting a default framework onto a meter, use
lock-paste on the Persistent modules, not free-paste. A list of Persistent modules is available from

9. CheckMaintainexternalinputsandclickOKontheconfirmationdialogbox.
AmessageappearsindicatingthatDesignerispastingmodules.Allmodulesare
selectedwhenthepasteiscomplete.Clickanywhereinthebackgroundofthe

notreadytoreceivedatauntilyousetupthenecessaryframework.Themeteris
alsopreconfiguredtosendDNP3.0datatoaDNPMaster.

NOTE
Changing the default factory third-party protocol frameworks (or creating new frameworks to enable
receive functionality) is an advanced procedure. Refer to the DNP modules and Modbus modules
descriptions in the ION Reference, as well as the technical notes DNP 3.0 and ION Technology, and
Modbus and ION Technology before proceeding.

MostModbusandDNPmodulesonthemeterarefactorypresetandonlyrequire

Changing these modules from their factory configuration is an advanced setup procedure that requires

Communications Protocol Configuration

Using the Onboard Digital Outputs


Thefourdigitaloutputportsarelocatedontherearofthemeter.IONDigital
Output,CalibrationPulser,orPulsermodulescontrolthefunctionofthedigital
outputports.Thesemodulesdefinethecharacteristicsofoutgoingsignalsandcan
actasintermediariesbetweenthehardwareportandtheothermodulesinthe
meter.DigitalOutputportscanbeusedtocontrolrelaysorsendstatussignals.

YoumustconfiguretheDigitalOutput,CalibrationPulser,andPulsermodulesas
follows:

Onceyouhaveconfiguredthemodules,theycanbecontrolledbyotherION
modulesthatprovidetriggeroutputs.

CAUTION
The relay outputs of the meter should never be used for primary protection functions. Be sure that you are
familiar with the warnings at the beginning of this document, as well as those presented in your meters
Installation Guide.

Theseoutputscanbecontrolledbydifferentmodules,dependingonthe
application.Forrelayandcontrol,usetheDigitalOutputmodule.Forpulsing
applications,thePulserandCalibrationPulsermodulesaregenerallyused.

Digital Output Modules


Thedigitaloutputportscanbecontrolledwiththefollowingmodules:
CalibrationPulsermodulesallowyoutogeneratehighaccuracyenergypulses
forcalibrationtestingpurposes.Theyintegrateinstantaneouspowerappearing
attheirinputs.
DigitalOutputmodulesacceptBooleaninputs,andoutputacontinuoussignal

whereyoucanplugGrayhilldigitaloutputhardwaremodules.Therearenine
Grayhillhardwaremodulesofvaryingfunctionalityavailable.Therelaysare
purchasedseparately.

Aswithonboarddigitaloutputs,thePulser,CalibrationPulser,andDigitalOutput
modulescanbeusedtocontrolthefunctionsoftheexternalrelays.Setthe
modulesPortsetupregistertothedigitaloutputport(D1toD4)thattherelayis
connectedto.

Setup Register Function Default

This register specifies the width of the pulses sent to the hardware channel (in seconds). The
Pulse Width 0.05
Calibration Pulser module maintains a minimum duty cycle of 50% on the output pulse train.

The numeric bounded register defines how much energy the module accumulates before a pulse is
Kt sent to the hardware channel. An industry standard for energy pulsing is 1.8, or one pulse per 1.8 1.80
energy-hours.

Int Mode Specifies the modes of integration that may be selected. Absolute

TheSetpointmoduleprovidesextensivecontrol,secondaryprotection,and
analysiscapabilitiesbyallowingyoutoinitiateanactioninresponsetoaspecific
condition.SeetheIONReferenceformoreinformationontheSetpointmodule.

There is usually no need to change any of the Setpoint modules setup registers for normal operation of
the meter.

ThefourSetpointmodulesonION7330andION7350metersmonitorthe

Setpoint Module Settings


ThemetersSetpointmodulescontainthefollowingsetupregisters:

Register Description Default Setting

When the Eval Mode is GreaterThan, this register specifies what limit the Source input must
exceed for the Status output register to change to on. When the Eval Mode is LessThan, it
High Limit specifies what limit the Source input must exceed for the Status output register to change to
off. If the Source input is Boolean, the value entered into this register is disregarded, and the
High Limit is automatically set to 0.

shouldchangeareSusUntlONandSusUntlOFF.

SusUntlONdetermineshowlongthemoduleswaitafteranoverconditionis
detectedbeforereportingit.Thisgivesthemonitoredvalueashortperiodto
correctitselfbeforetheeventisregisteredwiththemodulesothatverybriefover
conditionsareignored.Similarly,SusUntlOFFistheamountoftimeanormal
valuemustbepresentbeforethemoduleconsidersnormaloperationtobe
restored.BothSusUntlONandSusUntlOFFvaluesareenteredinseconds(the
defaultvalueforbothis30seconds).
