Summary:

While teacher enthusiasm has been connected to an increased amount of student


interest and success, instructors are rarely trained on the steps to enthusiastic teaching.
In order to further study this relationship and strengthen teacher training, researchers
examined the effects of enthusiastic behaviors while in a natural classroom setting. This
study consisted of four instructors from West Virginia University, each being filmed during
two class sessions to determine five enthusiasm behaviors. These behaviors included;
eye contact, facial expression, gestures, movement, and vocalization, each being
scored based on absence or presence. The results of the study found that while all
behaviors are important, eye contact and vocalization showed the greatest effect on
student learning. With that in mind, teacher training can now be more specific to
student success and the steps in order to help one achieve greatness.
