Music 1010

Final Reflection

This project really helped me to apply what I learned about music. After learning how to
analyze music and what different kinds of music there is, having to analyze about 15 minutes of
music was a challenge. I had to apply everything that I learned about music. The hardest part
was the timed listening guide, since music changes pretty quickly. But the guide was rewarding
in itself since I know exactly what is going to happen and at what time. Its like I learned more
about the specific song, making my relationship with it better. Like making a new friend, I was
able to become more acquainted with my song. The same thing happened with my composer,
since I learned more about him than I had ever before.
The concert reviews were also quite enjoyable, since they were so similar to the final
project. They were just simpler, as we only had to discover the general facts about the songs.
But they were still just as beneficial since they taught me how to observe music in the moment,
as you dont have the luxury to listen to the music over and over again.
The class itself was exciting in its own way. All of the different genres of music were
unique and interesting on their own. They each had their own unique way of expressing the
values of the time, helping people remember and convey those values. Like in my humanities
class, they talked about how art helps represent and bring about changes in society. Music
1010 has helped me realize that as I have gone over all of the different musical time periods.
They each show the ideals of that era, as well as the values I spoke of earlier. Music, as a form
of expression, has its part to play in life, just like everything else, and the world would be worse
off without it.
