Things to
1. Remember
Captions should be written in short pithy sentences, say an average of 15
words for a sentence.
2. The basic question every caption must tell of its pictures are: WHO, WHAT,
WHERE, WHEN, and WHY.
3. Give the full name or first name to identify everyone in the picture and be
accurate.
4. Match caption with the mood of the picture.
5. A caption is conversational. It should exploit the picture potential interest,
e.g. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in Filipiniana dress while Vice
President Noli de Castro in military attire.
6. Captions should supplement the pictorial information briefly.
7. The caption should not contradict the photo.
8. DO NOT begin an unnecessary caption especially it really does not like Photo
shows and/ or In the photo are...
9. DO NOT write the news story as a caption
10. The caption should be intended. Choose a type or font different form the
normal body type, either bold or italics, but be consistent.
The Picture

The role of the pictures on the illustration becomes the
dominant while words are secondary only.

Most pictures in the feature section and in magazines are
explained with a caption story in essay form.
Caption story is more descriptive, narrative or expository.
