S o far,165 patientshave been recruited from the tricity in the ICM R / DS T P roject on Care of
bedridden P atients.P atientsare also recruited from the otheradjoining areasofChandigarh. M os t
of the patientshave show n significant im provem ent in their condition. T hishas been possible
becaus e ofthe appropriate hom e based care provided by theircaregivers.O nce the caregiversare
trained regarding the dressing ofw ound,exercises,etc,they are able to take care ofthe patient
efficiently. S o,training of caregiversisproving to be a m ilestone in the recovery of bedridden
patientsw ith bedsores.T hisisbeing appreciated by the people oftricity astheirloved onesget the
m uch needed attention and care right at theirdoorsteps.

In orderto create aw arenesson the issue ofbedsoresin bedridden patients,tw o projectsare running
successfully under the guidance ofDr. S ukhpalKaur,(L ecturer,Departm ent ofN IN E,P GI)and Dr.
A m arjeet S ingh (P rofessor,S choolofP ublicHealth,P GI). T he project team regularly visitsthe hom es
ofbedridden patientsto train theircaregiversto prevent and treat bedsores.Bookletsin Hindiand
English are distributed free ofcost to the fam iliesincluded in the study.T he purpose ofthisbook isto
provide sim ple solutionsto the challengesfaced by the bedridden patientsand theircaregiversin day
to day life.T he booksem phasize on the training ofthe caregiversregarding hom e based care ofthe
bedridden patients.
