GEN Y IN THE WORKFORCE

PROBLEM STATMENT
Gen Y is tech-savvy. They have grown up with the Internet and mobile around them whereas
the older generation is still not very comfortable with technology around them. Gen Y is very
confident, independent, goal-oriented and optimistic, and are very eager to live each day of
their life to the fullest. They are the ones who desire to do meaningful work and have inputs
into big decisions. They are eager to get their ideas implemented and rise up the hierarchy
much more quickly than their previous generations who still believe in putting time before
expecting recognition and promotions. The older generation have failed to appreciate Gen Ys
valuable knowledge of new media and social networking. They should not completely dismiss
Gen Ys ideas as impractical. While the older generation believes in following the protocols
and the hierarchy and has a traditional view, Gen Y is smarter and they want faster recognition.
The two generations also have a very different approach to balancing work and life. However,
the older generation still has an upper hand when it comes to adaptability and when working as
a team player in the workforce.
