Talk About Time

Dear Parents,

During Term 3 we are introducing Talk About time in Kindergarten. During this time students will have
an opportunity to develop their communication skills with their peers as part of English. There will be a
different topic and communication focus for each week and a timetable will be provided. Please take the
time to support your child at home in preparing for this activity.

This experience is to encourage confidence in speaking in front of their peers and developing their oral
language skills.

Week 4 ~ Australian Animals

- Tells us about your favourite Australian animal
- Share 3 things about that animal (Where does it live? What does it eat? How does it move?
What does it look like? An interesting fact?)
- You may like to draw or bring in a picture of this animal to share
Communication focus: use a loud clear voice

Week 5 ~ My Favourite Book

- Tell us about your favourite book
- Who is the author? What is your favourite page? Why do you like this book? (is it funny?
Factual?)
- You may like to bring in this book to show the class
Communication focus: eye contact with the audience

Week 6 ~ Who am I?
- Write 5 clues about your favourite book character to read to the class and see if we can guess.
- You may like to have a picture of this character to show at the end.
Communication focus: stand and present with good posture

Week 7 ~ All about Dad

- Tell us about your Dad or a special man in your life.
- What does he like/dislike? What are his hobbies? Why is he special to you?
- You may like to bring along a photo or drawing showing you and your Dad doing something
together.
Communication focus: staying on topic (this is about your Dad not you!)

Week 8 ~ Healthy Me
- What do you know about being healthy?
- How do you stay healthy?
- What is your favourite healthy snack?
Communication focus: responding to simple questions from the audience

Week 9 ~ Spring Time

- What do you like about Spring?
- How is Spring time different to other seasons?
- Draw a picture about Spring and share with the class.
Communication focus: all of the above skills
