Chapter 1: Binomials Expressions

Algebraic expressions are those expressions which consists of 2 terms separated by a + or a -
sign. 2 + 3 and 4 are referred as Binomials.
Using the distributive law to find the product of Binomials

Example: Find the product of (2 + 3) and ( + 5).

(2 + 3)( = 2( + 5) + 3( + 5)
+ 5)
= 2 2 + 10 + 3 + 15

= 2 2 + 13 + 15
A shorter method for multiplying binomials

Example: Find the product of (2 + 3) and ( + 5).

(2 + 3)( + 5) = 2 2 + 10 + 3 + 15
= 2 2 + 13 + 15

Expansion of perfect squares

1. ( + )2 = 2 + 2 + 2
2. ( )2 = 2 2 + 2

Example:
482 = (50 2)2
= (50)2 2(50)(2) + (2)2
= 2500 200 + 4
= 2304

Note: ( + )( ) = 2 2

Similarly, 2 2 = ( + )( )

Chapter 2: Trigonometry
Trigonometry is the study of the measurement of triangles.
By Pythagoras theorem,
() 2 = ()2 + ( )2
i.e. 2 + 2 = 2
