(Table 2) The FDA limit for a permissible increase in body core temperature
during MR imaging is 1C. In addition, the FDA considers a significant risk to
be incurred if the specific absorption rate exceeds 3 W/kg averaged over the
head for 10 minutes, 4 W/kg averaged over the whole body for 15 minutes, 8
W/kg per gram of tissue averaged over the head or torso for 5 minutes, or 12
W/kg averaged over the extremities for 15 minutes.
