Pete Pretorius wouldn’t call himself brave.
“This was closer to foolishness,” he says with a chuckle.
“Bravery is when you actually think about it.”
Pretorius, a long-time Fleetwood resident, went to White
Rock Sunday, July 11. The plan was to relax, maybe enjoy an
ice cream cone and spend quality time with his wife and two
children.
It was late in the afternoon when Pretorius saw someone in
knee-deep water far from shore frantically waving and shout-
ing for help. Pretorius asked her what was wrong. She pointed
to a man far off in the distance and said he was drowning.
