PRODUCT BULLETIN 137 DANIEL - FLOW NC. * Flanged, Weld-in and Holding Ring Types + Made in Accordance with Latest A.S.M.E. Codes * Available in 304 Stainless Stee! and Other Metals + Fully Assembled Meter Tubes Available + Daniel Laboratory Flow Calibration Available DANIEL INDUSTRIES manufactures a ful line of precision flow nozzles for a wide range of applica- tions. All Daniel flow nozzles are made in accordance with A.S.M.E. Codes, including A.S.M.E. MFC-3M, ANSI B31 and others, Various type nozzles are available for installation in 4" pipe size and larger. Flanged models (Type “T") can be furnished for ine sizes as small as 2". For sizes below 4, in other than flanged models, special-design nozzle flow section assemblies are available (see page 7). For most operating con- ditions, Daniel Industries recommends that flow nozzles be purchased in stainless steel to lessen the ef- fects of corrosion on the highly polished throats. Chrome molybdenum steel flow nozzles are available for se under sustained temperatures as high as 1050°F, Other types of material are available on request for special applications. FLANGED* FLOW NOZZLE This type of flow nozzle has a flange on its upstream face which is installed between pipe flanges to hold the nozzle concentric with the inside of the pipe. The noz- zle flange can be furnished in any type of facing (‘aised, ring-joint, otc.) as specified. TYPE “T” (Tapped) FLANGED FLOW NOZZLE Daniel Type “T" flow nozzles are equipped with the downstream tap in the nozzle flange. This type flow nozzle is basically the same as Type “P" except for the downstream tap location. tis used mostly in small sizes where tap interference may accur such as on or too close to the pipe weld, in the pipe weld, etc. The Type “"T"is furnished with a Ye" NPT connection unless other- wise specified. * See page 6 for statements on tap locations. | TYPE “P” (Plain) FLANGED FLOW NOZZLE Daniel Type “P" flange flow nozzles are the type ‘most commonly used for insertion between pipe flanges. This type of flow nozzle is designed for pipe wall taps whose locations are determined by Beta ratio land pipe I.D. A shoulder behind the nozzle flange cen- ters the nozzle in the pipeline within required toler. ances. The Daniel Type “P" flow nozzle is designed in ‘accordance with AS.M.E. specifications. (Not available in line size 6" or smaller) “WELD-IN FLOW NOZZLE This type nozzle has a machined tongue around its greatest diameter designed to fit between beveled tends of both an inlet and outlet pipe section. The pipe sections, with the nozzle in place, are firmly clamped and/or tack-welded in alignment before the finish weld is applied. The Daniel weld-in flow nozzle is used where flanges are not applicable such as high tem- perature and pressure applications in power plant installations, feed water etc. The weld-in nozzle is available with complete flow nozzle flow sections. Pipe wall taps are also used with this type nazzie. *Sizes below 4” may require a special-design nozzle flow section assembly. See page 7 for details. “HOLDING RING FLOW NOZZLE This nozzle configuration is another welding type designed for installation in a pipe without flanges. The nozzle is installed with the curved nozzle inlet facing Upstream in a section of carefully selected and inter- nally bored pipe. The Daniel Holding Ring low nozzle eliminates the welding of dissimilar materials because the ring, pins and pipe are of compatible materials. Pipe walltaps are also used with this type nozzle. “The holding ring flow nozzle requires careful consid- eration for use in sizes below 4" because difficully may be encountered in welding the thin ring inside a small diameter pipe. For this reason, holding ring type nozzies are not recommended below the 4" size. Special-design nozzle flow section assemblies are available for these sizes (see page 7) DANIEL THROAT-TAP. FLOW NOZZLES For the power industry, Daniel Industries manufac- tures the highly accurate throat-tap flow nozzle. This type is used as the acceptance test flow nozzle for ‘genorating plants. The nozzle is furnished in the flanged configuration. Because of the high degree of accuracy necessary, design and manufacturing requirements are quite stringent and the relative cost of the throat-tap flow nozzle is higher than standard nozzles. Daniel offers the flow calibration service at its Houston plant. i “7 Note: No obstruction such as thermocouple wels, backing rings, otc FLOW SECTION DESIGN FOR THROAT-TAP NOZZLES (ASME. In most cases, this type of nozzle is purchased with a complete flow section and laboratory flow calibrated before delivery. Daniel flange type throat-tap nozzles are manufactured in strict accordance with the A.S.M.E. power test code and furnished with two throat-taps as standard. ‘TYPICAL NOZZLE CALIBRATION CURVE COEFFICIENT OF DISCHARGE «C ‘THROAT REYNOLDS NUMBER - Ra COMPLETE FLOW NOZZLE SECTIONS fae | ‘A Upstream) 4 FLOW SECTION WITH FLANGE TYPE FLOW NOZZLE + for L- B (Downstream) In sizes below 3°, the downstream ‘connection weld may overlap the nozzle/pipe weld. { t ose FLOW SECTION WITH WELD-IN TYPE FLOW NOZZLE 4D 2p ai un 8 (Downstream). 7 Spice welds equedt> > Dy maintain a minimum downstream lenghiperA SME” fuidmeters. INTEGRAL NOZZLE ASSEMBLY FLOW NOZZLE CALCULATIONS ‘The Daniel Industries Calculation Section, a part of the Engineering Department, is responsible for the fast, accurate calculation of flow nozzle bores. The Section utilizes the latest in electronic computers and published trade standards to compute and verify calcula- tions. The calculations are printed on a reproducible data sheet from which a copy is made and sent to the customer. To ensure prompt calculations, the customer should fur- nish complete information relative to either 985, liquid or steam flows. aneear py ~IEE MEASUREMENT AND CONTROL, INC.- WESTERN HEMISPHERE OPERATIONS: 9720 Old Katy Road, PO.
