Boston.

Today, in Tu Ingls Session 71, we are going to celebrate the holiday season
with Mr. Butts and his mother! Te acuerdas del Seor Butts? El es el jefe de
nuestra amiga en Mxico, Cecilia. Hoy en Tu Ingls Sesin 71, vamos a
ejercitar tu odo con una sesin avanzada casi cien por ciento en ingls y
llena de phrasal verbs verbos con preposiciones!

Oh, thats great! La Seora Oviedo es una mujer muy buena. Estoy

OK, great! La Seora Butts vive sola en una casa en el estado de Wisconsin,
en Estados Unidos.

MB: We didnt turn off your radio, Mother. We just turned down the
volume.

MB: Sure we can. Leonora, could you turn up moms radio a little bit?

MB: OK, Mother, there, we turned up your radio. Now, I have someone I
want you to meet. This is my fianc, Leonor Oviedo

nombre suena inventado.
LO: No, Mrs. Butts, it is not a made up name. My parents did not make up
that name. Leonor is a common name in my country.

SB: Say what? No, no I dont speak Spanish. I just heard that on the radio.

C: Thats right, Seora Oviedo! She wants us to take off our coats. Ella quiere

LO: OK, thank you Mrs. Butts. Here is my coat. It is so cold tonight!
SB: Cold? Tonight is warm. Tim, can you hang up their coats?
MB: Sure! Here, Leonor, Cecilia, give me your coats and I will hang them up
in the closet.
SB: Now, if you dont mind, I have to get back to my cooking in the kitchen.

SB: How do you open up the can?! You dont know how to open up a can of
soup?
LO: To cook? Yes, I know how to cook. In my country, I cook all the time.

C: Mmm, Mrs. Butts, La Seora Oviedo she doesnt eat much canned food.
SB: You dont eat canned food? I couldnt get by without canned food.

LO: Ahh, ok. Well, I am not sure how to open this can
LO: Thank you Tim! And what are you making Mrs. Butts?
SB: I am making tuna casserole. Its a recipe I made up myself. One can of
mushroom soup. One can of tuna fish. One stick of celery. And one package of
noodles.
C: Seora Oviedo, creo que son fideos. Noodle quiere decir fideo.
SB: Well, its nothing fancy. But it was one my husbands favorite dishes.
MB: That is true, mother. Dad used to always say, That is a dish I cant do
without!
LO: Ahh, ok. And I cant do without your tuna casserole, Mrs. Butts!
SB: Well, its not like tacos or burritos or whatever you eat in Colombia.
MB: Mother, they dont eat tacos and burritos in Colombia. Those are
Mexican dishes. Cecilia, tell mother about your food.

C: Yes, Mrs. Butts, I am from Mexico, and we use tortillas a lot. Do you know
what a tortilla is, Mrs. Butts?
MB: Mother, sometime I want you to try some real Mexican food. Maybe
Cecilia could come over someday and make you a real Mexican dinner!
C: Come over? Ah, venir! Yes, I would love to come over someday and make a
typical Mexican dinner!
SB: Well, that would be nice. But if I dont get on with cooking, we wont
have anything to eat tonight!
C: [Ahh, get on with seguir o continuar. Get on with. ] Oh, sorry, Mrs.
Butts, are we distracting you?
SB: No, dont you worry, honey, youre not distracting me. This casserole is
ready to go into the oven.
MB: Here, mother, let me help you put the casserole into the oven.
SB: OK, there we go. All right! Now, we just sit back and relax.
MB: OK, Mother, why dont we all hang out in the living room while the
casserole cooks? Sound good Leonor?
LO: Ah, ok. Yes, I would like to hang out in the living room!

LO: Jajaja, ooops! OK, lets head over to the living room!
SB: Wait a minute. Tim, where is the dessert? You remembered to bring a
dessert, right?
SB: I thought your future wife was going to whip up something at home.
MB: Its not your fault, Leonor. Mother? Leonor and I will head out right
now and pick up something for dessert. Right Leonor?

LO: Oh? Well, I have an idea, Mrs. Butts. Do you have any rice? If you have
some rice, I could make Arroz con Leche.
C: Mrs. Butts, arroz con leche. I think you would call it creamed rice?
SB: Creamed rice? Oh! Rice pudding you mean? I just buy that in the can.
LO: In the can? Oh no, Mrs. Butts, you have to try it fresh. I will make it for
you! Would that be ok?
LO: Sure! I can make it right now, if you have the ingredients. Arroz, rice
SB: Yes, I have milk here in the refrigerator. Want me to take it out?
LO: OK, yes Mrs. Butts. Please take it out of the refrigerator. Excellent! And
canela? Cecilia, como se dice canela?

LO: Powder? Polvo? That is ok. We can use cinnamon powder. And do you
have vainilla?
LO: Great! And one last thing. Mrs. Butts, do you have Cecilia, como se
dice leche condensada?
SB: Yes, I think I do. I have a can of condensed milk in the pantry. I hope you
dont mind if its in a can!
SB: Well, look at you Leonor! You really do know how to cook!
LO: Omito algo? Mmmm .. ah! Por supuesto! Mrs. Butts, I almost forgot! Do
you have mmm, sugar?

LO: No sugar? I like to put a little sugar in my rice pudding. Do you want to
look around the pantry?
LO: Another question? Ahhhh! Yes, of course! Mrs. Butts, do you have any
artificial sweetener?
SB: Why, yes, I do! In fact, I have the best artificial sweetener in the world. I
have VerySweet!

MB: Rice pudding? Oh, thats wonderful! I love your flecha con arroz!
C: No, Mr. Butts. Flecha means arrow. Leche means milk. Arroz con leche.
MB: What? Arroz means rice, but arrow means flecha? Now I am all mixed up.
SB: OK, enough of the Spanish lessons! Dinner is ready! Lets sit down and eat!
LO: Gracias Cecilia, pero ya s ese verbo con preposicin! Come on, everyone! Lets sit
down and eat!
MB: OK sweetheart! Well, what a merry Christmas Eve this turned out to be! Una
navidad muy feliz!
SB: And I am very happy too. I am very happy to have such a wonderful future daughter-
in-law!
LO: Oh, thank you Mrs. Butts, and I am very happy to have you as my future mother-in-
law!
MB: All right then! Merry Christmas everyone! Feliz Navidad a todos!
