All debris and equipment not required for the scan should be
removed from the tank before scanning.
The scanner should always be aligned the same way at the beginning
of every scan.
Scans should be located such that the tank bottom has complete
coverage. This is required for edge settlement analysis.

Vertical welds on first and second courses (if possible) should be
marked.
