After watching Alan Smiths TED talk about using statistics to illustrate the massive
difference between perception and reality in many areas of life, there are a few key takeaways
that came to mind. The first is that a survey that measured levels of numeracy in the population
and they were shocked to find Out of every 100 working age adults 47 lacked level 1 numeracy
skills. Next it is that we risk hurting people inadvertently into 1 or 2 categories, there are 2 kinds
of people, those that can do numbers and the people who cant. And lastly it is that we can be
blind to the obvious, and we are also blind to our blindness and that has enormous repercussions.
Overall in the TED Talk, Alan Smith presents numbers in ways that everyone can understand.
