CONCLUSION:

Based on the way a shunt motor is constructed, the torque is proportional to the armature current. This
implies that in order to produce a high torque, the armature winding must be exposed to an amount of
current that is much higher than the field windings current.

A shunt motor has its own ability to self-regulate its speed on application of load to the shaft of the
rotor terminals. Consider a motor running under no load or lightly loaded; the concept of self-regulates
comes into picture when the motor does slow down because of the load-addition to the shaft. This
implies that the speed reduces, and along with speed also reduces the back emf.
