Imagine living in London during the air raids of WW II! It would be both scary
and exciting. This is where Peter, Susan, Lucy, and Edmund find themselves when our
story begins. This is nothing compared to where we find them when the story ends.
The mother of the children sent them away to the Professors house in the country
for their protection. Lucy finds a wardrobe that opens into a whole world. The others
dont even know she is missing. She meets Mr. Tumnus, a faun from Narnia, who almost
captures her for the White Witch but has a change of heart.
Edmund has a much different experience in Narnia. He actually meets the White
Witch and falls under her spell. Eventually, all four children find themselves in Narnia
and meet Mr. and Mrs. Beaver. Edmund makes some questionable choices and needs to
be rescued by Aslan, the great Lion, from the clutches of the White Witch.
Aslan saves Edmund by taking his place as the witchs prisoner and she thinks she
defeats Aslan at the Stone Table. To her surprise, Aslan returns miraculously to defeat
her and her army. The four children become the Kings and Queens of Narnia.
I enjoyed this book once I read far enough to understand that they were visiting
not just the Professor but a whole new world. The author definitely showed some
Biblical comparisons in characters like Aslan, the White Witch, and Edmund. I hope to
try some Turkish delight myself someday. I checked it out from the classroom library.
