Tip: Quickly add datasets to your project

Did you know you can drag and drop Geosoft files on to the Project Explorer to add them to your project, but not open them in the project workspace?

There are a few great drag and drop shortcuts. This one allows you to drag and drop files straight out of Windows File Explorer into the Project Explorer
to build a new project. This can save time if you have several datasets that you want to bring in, you are starting a new project workspace, or you want to
check out old data archives.

Import Multiple Files to a Database

I saw a question that deserves a new and improved answer:

Q: "I've often got a lot of raw data files, do I have to bring them in one at a time or is there a way to import them all at once?"

It used to be that the best way to do this was to use a script. In Oasis montaj 9.0 it is now easier to import a large number of survey files at once. If you
have multiple ASCII files in the same file format, you can now import all of them at the same time into a Geosoft database.

This can save you lots of time and avoids the need to create batch import scripts.

1. Go to Database > Import... > Ascii...

2. Browse to select multiple files:

All files must have identical formatting. Each ASCII file will be imported into a separate line in the database. See the Import ASCII Help topic for more
details on this new option.

You can drag any window outside of the Oasis montaj or Target application
Database, Grid, and Map toolbars are embedded at the top of their windows
Toolbars appear in context, and when required.
Map Manager is now attached to the map window
Project Explorer and Map Manager tools have been redesigned and include right-click menus for quickly creating and opening files

Tip: Map Snapshots and Auto Recolour Grids

Use Map Snapshots and Auto Recolour Grids to get a zoomed in view of anomalies in your grid.

1. Zoom in and use Map > Create Snapshot to save the map extents as a new snapshot.

2. Then toggle the Auto Recolour Grid tool to stretch the colour ramp over the zoomed in area.

New Templates for Scatter and Triplot Analysis Tools

The Scatter Plot tool plots one channel against another channel in a tool where you can interactively interrogate the data in your database and plot to a
map.

You can dynamically link with the database, regardless of the type of data you are working with. Use channels from geochemistry samples, drillhole
data, or any other readings. Select and mask values, and colour classify the data points using distributions or other fields.

Extracting a Profile from a Grid

Extract a Profile from a Grid is a commonly used and very useful function. We've looked at how to display profiles along sections before.

You can use the GRIDPROF GX to extract a data profile from a grid and place it in a new line of the current database. This capability can be useful for a
variety of applications including modeling and removing local trends during gridding.

Here's how it works:

1. Start with your grid displayed on a map. Go to Grid and Image > Grid Utilities > Grid Profile...
If you do not have a current database, then you will be prompted to enter a name for a new database that will be created for your profile output.

2. Select up to 5 grids and enter a New line name.

3. Specify the location by digitizing on the map, or manually using one of the other options.

4. The grid(s) will be sampled to a new line in the database.
